ohms....short and sweet.
Ohms is resistance. Let's say we have an amplifier that is 1 ohm stable and produces 1000 watts.
This amp can put out 1000 watts at 1 ohm, but if you double the resistance to 2 ohms, the amplifier can only produce 500 watts, double it again to 4 ohms and the amplifier can only produce 250 watts.
The different ohm levels on subs is for wiring options to match the lowest resistance to the amplifier.
For example, if you have 2 single voice coil subs that are rated at 4 ohms, your wiring options are 2 ohms or 8 ohms.
if you have two subs that are dual 4 ohm voice coils your wiring options are 1, 4, and 16 ohms.
If I lost you, I will go into detail if you want.

Your best match here, would be a pair of 8512-04's and the TC8001 amp. These subs are rated at 500 RMS per sub and the amp is rated at 800 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. Here, each sub would get 400 watts RMS.

This sub can be used in sealed or ported enclosures. The ported enclosure is the most efficient design and there are recommeded enclosure details and wiring info on this link as well.

A pair of 9512-04's paired with one TA92001 will do the job very well. That's 1000 watts RMS per sub when the subs are wired for 2 ohms net load, to this amp.

This amp is 1 ohm stable and you can also use a pair of 9512-44's wired for 1 ohm. That delivers a clean 1500 RMS per sub. (3000 watts RMS @ 1 ohm)

However, one needs to be very careful when setting one of these systems up. Get it wrong and you can wind up frying 2 expensive subs.

if i have a 2000 watt amp and plan on getting 2 kicker solo-baric 12's dual voice coil. would it be best to go with 2ohms or 4ohms?

ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/12/2006 18:47:44
All of that depends on the ohmage stabilities of your 2000W amp.

What amp are you thinking about here massbass? We can either choose the subs first and then an amp to match, or choose the amp and pick well matched subs.

Well could you tell me of a good amp to go with those speakers? money is not an issue

If you wanted to stick with Kicker gear, the ZX-1500.1 is a very good match when paired with two L712's. Here, to get the best load matching for subs to amp, a pair of 2+2 DVC Solo's are needed.

The L7 series comes in either 2+2 or 4+4 DVC coils sets. You'll want the 2+2 DVC's in this applictation.
