hello i defenatly need some help on this one. one of my co workers came to me with a problem. his cd player display is going out the lite is verry dim and he can not see what station he is on or what track he is playing he actually uses a flashlite to try and see. this is a pretty old cd player (panasonic dpx85eu) i believe he said hes had it about 9 years. my friend is in his 50s and dose not want to learn a new stereo he would like to keep his curent one if posible. can this be fixed can you find a replacment faceplate for this. is there any hope in saving this cdplayer?

best bet would be to probably talk to Panasonic and see if they might have one laying around still or try Ebay.

I saw that there was a face plate that went on ebay back in october http://cgi.ebay.com/PANASONIC-DPX85EU-face-only_W0QQitemZ120036187854QQcmdZViewItem
I think your friend just needs to keep checking ebay and hope one comes up for auction soon.

alot of times, they just burn out.
If it has a detachable face, you might be able to clean the contacts where the faceplate plugs in. try using a pencil eraser or a q-tip with alcohol.

Pioneer DEH-1800 MSRP $100
This radio is a little different looking than the old models (no knobs)
but it is the entry level model and it dosen't have alot of confusing advanced features, just am/fm/cd

Kenwood KDC-1032 MSRP <$100
This one is just as easy to use.. still has volume knob and a joystick type knob on the right toggles between stations.

I am very familiar with both of these. I have installed dozens of each. We have quite a large customer base of people age 50 and up. I have never had a problem explaining how to use these radios to them.. can't get much simpler than that.
