If you are thinking about 2 subs here, use the T8512-04's. These are rated at 4 ohms per sub and take up to 500 watts RMS per each. Here's a spec sheet on them and box recommendations for sealed an ported enclosure designs: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/thunder8500.cfm As far as amping goes, look for a solid Class D amp that can supply an honest 1000 watts RMS @ 2 ohm loads. If you want to stick with MTX amps, consider the TA 81001. This is a very strong amp and should give your subs a good workout. FYI: This amp will draw well over 100 amps of current at full power. This may mean major electrical upgrades, depending on how you use it. Frankly, unless you plan to compete in local SPL Comps, a single 12" sub in a port tuned enclosure, will definitely give you some serious bump and cost a good deal less in the long run. Suggest this combo, if you want MTX products: One T8512-44 sub One TC6001 Class D MONO amp What say you? Swez Porkee113 on 12/10/2006 22:35:38 Im trying to get the best sound system at my high school. we have a winner selected and we get to be in the year book i want to be the winner. right now i have 2 12" thunder series subs and they dont sound very good when i turn it up louder. would only 1 12" be good enough or do u think 2 would blow everyone away. would i have to get another amp for the other sub?. and also wat electrical upgrades would i have to get? thnx, Cory Porkee113 on 12/10/2006 22:46:57 i want to also try and stay under $500 for the new upgrade. or is it even possible? swez on 12/11/2006 01:39:08 That all depends on the discounts you get from your MTX sources. The electrical upgrades alone, will be about $300. Also, MTX is not the cheapest toys on the block, unless you get them at wholesale or dealer prices. A single 12, ported and 500/600 watts RMS should net you low 140's dB's of SPL. Here, a stock ALT and a good BAT should get the job done. That's a major cost savings too. If you ponied up for dual 12's and a bigger amp, figure mid 140's in SPL. Is 4-5 dB more SPL reallt worth the extra costs? Then add about $300.00 for electrical upgrades and such... count the cost. Swez PS There are more efficient subs out there to look at too. A single ported 12 or 15" and 500-600 watts RMS can really make some racket. The gear is about 30% of the results. The care in installing and enclosure design are more like 70% of the final results. Yeah, it's like that... THINK about it a while. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/11/2006 01:52:06 What high school do you go to that lets students get away with bumpin, let alone encourages it? I want to go to this school, if campus security at my old H/S heard you bumpin in the parking lot, they would detain you until cops came to give noise ordinances. Lets just say I'm glad I didn't have a car in school. Porkee113 on 12/11/2006 17:56:12 Hazen High School in Renton, Washington ya alot of people bump hella loud and noone says anything and getting into the yearbook is pretty cool for having a system. wat if i got 2 of these http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/TC8001.cfm for each of these 12" http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/thunder8500.cfm would i have to do anything besides getting a new battery. and would getting like 0-4 gage wire really help. also would the 4ohms or 2ohms be a good box to get for the 8500's http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/enclosures/sledgeHammer8500.cfm is there any real big differences between the 7500 8500 and 9500 series subs? i like 12" only ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/11/2006 21:56:09 That's pretty sweet. Do you guys have a lot of systems in your town? I went to H/S in a nappy kinda hick town, they had no tolerance for systems there. In terms of your ohmage, it is key that you match this up to your amp's stability ratings. This amp is good at 2 ohms, so a pair of 4 ohmers would get you to your gol of getting the full wattage from this amp. Doh! You want one amp per sub, my bad you would want the dual voice coil subs, netting a two ohm load on each amp. Each sub having it's own amp kinda sounds like overkill. Each amp runs 300 watts more than the subs can handle, and in the hands of a novice, this can be dangerous unless your'e extremely careful with your gain and bass boost. This is where the huge difference between these different lines of subs comes into play. The 9500 handles twice as much power as the 8500, a big bump from 500 to 1000 RMS. If your yearbook spot is a bottomless budjet project, consider the Jackhammer, as seen on Pimp My Ride. Virtually guarantee nobody at school can top that........ Porkee113 on 12/11/2006 22:29:29 i wish i could get the jackhammer, but im not rich. i also wish that too. also i dont understand the whole ohms and RMS stuff. can u help me out. so ur saying one of those amps could power both of the 8500 or two amps for each 9500? and how do i know if i want 2 or 4 ohm subs or 2 or 4 ohm amps? wats the difference???? please help. thnx, Cory swez on 12/12/2006 00:42:58 Cory, check your other post on sub/amp choices: http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?g4745_1029 This is a well matched combo and a solid bass machine if you go ported. I've done the ohms and RMS matching for you. No need to go into a long post to discuss it here as it is confusing and very time consuming to explain too. The main thing you need to know is how to get the most power from a given amp, to a given set of subs.
