Bed Cut

I was wondering how hard a bed cut and to install some subs using the bed cut would be.. 98 GMC sonoma regular cab.. Can it be done by someone like me? I am very familiar with hardware and power tools and and access to many.. I just have no knowledge when it comes to cutting a bed.. THINK I know something about boot material... I have built many boxes (never a ported box though...) How hard is this, and would it just be easier to have a pro get it done? Also I would love to have this under my belt though as an install...

How hard is it? - Not hard at all.

How hard is it to do it right? - Extremely.

There are a few ways this can be done. I've seen where the face of the sub is mounted in the interior of the cab, and then the cone, as well as the box extend into the bed area.

You can build the entire enclosure in the bed area, and port it through both walls into the cab.

You can add a fiberglass top, and port the subs through the rear window, allowing the box to be in the bed as well.

My suggestion, if you really want to do something like this, would be to add a topper, and go that route. Removing the rear window/ or modding a slider, would be much easier to return to stock if you ever decide to move on to a new vehicle. The structural integrity of the truck is diminished when you do something such as cut two large holes in the wall of the cab, and will void many warranties, as well as place the liability on you in the case of an accident, rather than on your insurance company. (Basically, if you or your truck get hurt, you're paying for it, not your insurance, not the other person's insurance).

Just wondering are you going to have a topper??? If so you do not need to cut the bed . Just pull out the window and use a boot to make it water tight from the topper to the cab. Its easyer and cheaper if you mess up .
