hey man, i recently purchased an equalizer alpine 3347s, i hooked it up with my jvc head unit and the outputs went 2 my american pro amp. before i added the equalizer i had no static or engine noise, now i have it when i turn the key to the first click. i did some study and found out that it was most probly the equalizer cos it was second hand and is preety old. so then got another 1 from my bro, second hand too, an alpine nq348, now there is no static until the ingnition key goes to acc and i can hear the car power up from the speakers due to the static. also the static varies with the actions of the car. for example, if i press the brake i can hear i *tick* noise every time i press it. also if the radio is turn on and i press my alarm the static *tick* with the sound of the alarm. the static gets preety loud whn i turn on the car. im not sure how 2 stop that. i seems like the radio or equalizer is picking up all the actions of the car. its seriously weird. i tried changin the gound, it help reduce it but it still there. ive been studyin bout it and lookin up stuff bt just cant seem 2 find anything similar to my problem. any help would be greatly apreciated. thnkz deveshoan. Replies (6) swez on 11/28/2006 18:36:56 This is a very common issue. Most of the time, it boils down to a few simple things: 1. Proper grounding of HU, EQ/processor/amps 2. RCA signal line locations 3. Gain settings and matching devices in the ausio chain Your scenario is a classic sign of "ground loop issues". Poor grounding from HU, back to the EQ and amp. In most cases, all that is needed, is a good, bare metal ground for the HU and EQ. This can be at the firewall, floor pan or metal brackets in the dash. This is sometimes called a "dedicated ground path". If I were to review your install, chances are good that your JVC HU is grounded via the main dash harness. That may be fine for most HU installs, but when you add another active device in the audio chain, it too needs to be grounded. However, the best ground is not from the factory harness... it is one that goes right to the metal body of the car. What this does, is create a direct path for all audio devices, [HU/EQ/AMP(s)] so they all have a common and separate grounding path. 1. The amp is grounded to bare metal floor pan or similar location 2. The HU is grounded to bare metal as well (Not the dash panel lines) 3. The EQ is grounded in the same place as the HU This often eliminates the noise as there are no other devices sharing that dedicated ground. (Ie: Dash lights, brake lamps, relays, blower motor, door lamps ect.) Try this first and see if it eliminates or greatly reduces your noise issues. If there is still some noise after this tweak, we'll look at some of the other common causes. Swez deveshoan on 11/28/2006 23:24:58 hey thnkz for the help, i actually sorted out the issue after i put this post. it was the rca cable that were alil to close to the power wire. i moved it n now theres no problem with static. thnkz newayz for the groundin.. i might move it to the chasis cos now it is being grounded to the factory harness. sadly i have a new problem...after sorting out the static i relised that the equalizer does now turn off whn the head unit turns off. it continues to be activated even after i remove the key and lock ther car? any ideaz why this is happenin? cplkittle on 11/28/2006 23:51:57 does the eq have a wire labeled remote turn on or remote input? if it does connect it to the remote turn on wire from the radio. if it dosen't we can talk you through wiring up a relay to power the eq when the radio comes on. For a quick fix, you can connect the EQ power wire to the red switched wire on the radio harness. This way the EQ will come on when the key is on. deveshoan on 11/29/2006 01:15:01 hey yeah it has a remote wire and yeah if i connect it 2 the ingnition wire then the memory wont be saved rite? n yeah i have connected the remote wire, the only wire i havnt connected a white wire. i thnk its the dimmer?...not 2 sure wher 2 connect it to tho??
