Spray on or Asphalt dampening?

I'm going to add a couple of subs to car soon and need to add some type of dampening to the trunk becuase I don't want alot of noise coming from vibration. I have two 12's that I will be building my own box for. Does anyone have any suggestions for stopping trunk vibration noise? Let me know what works best or in any case at least what doesn't work. Hey does anyone know how to take the rear deck apart on a 07' Corolla? Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks!

eDesigns has a pretty good product they call "e-dead". This is a spray based chemical that offers both sound deadening and mass to the panels as they are treated.

Another product that seems to work very well is "Rhino" truck bed liner. This too adds mass to panels that help eliminate panel resonances by adding mass to given panels and trunk beds.

There are also a lot of other sheet goods materials that work pretty well to. The key is to add mass to thin metal/plastic panels that tend to rattle or resonate with bass waves.

The trick here... add enough mass to dampen rattles and resonating panels. Whether it's a spray, sheet good matting or a combination of both, is a matter of preference, price and overall effectiveness.

Thanks for your input. I'm thinking of getting a dynamat extreme trunk kit and maybe buying some type of spray to get those hard to reach areas. Anyone know how to take apart the rear deck?

I can't help you by memory, but I would start in the trunk, if there are any push in plastic tabs, remove them to get a good look at the bottom of the deck. Once you see from the bottom how it is attached (speed clips, plastic wedges, hooks, etc,) it will give you a better idea of how it was put on.

Dynamat is overrated, I used to sell it.
There are alot of other inexpensive deadeners that do just as well if not better at 1/2 or even 1/3 the cost. Plus a dynamat trunk kit is no where near enough to completely deaden a trunk.
check out elemental designs' deadener:

the eD eDead v1SEČ is 60 mils thick and you buy it by the square foot ($1.60)

dynamat (67mils thick) 36 sq ft $125 + shipping = 3.47/sqft (+shipping)

Elemental designs eDead (60 mils thick) 36sqft @ $1.60/sq ft = 57.60 + shipping
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php?cPath=24

bottom line, you could do 2 layers (120 mils thick) for $115.20 and spend the $10 that you saved on a dynamat logo stamp so you can emboss that logo into the flat eDead sheets PROUD
