I am sure some of you guys have seen this before, and if you haven't, I hope you have an hour or two to spare. If you ever wondered just how well an amplifier was made, or how it compares with the big dogs, have a lookie.

Hehe, this site can provide hours of browsing huh? Yeah, kinda neat to see the guts of any given amp. One thing I did notice, the big hitters use a lot of output transistors for solid power output.

Look at the power supply, # of amplifier/preamp chips and overall footprint of a given amp. The strong ones are very long and have very large power supply circuits and many output devices. They don't skimp on board space as this helps cool a high powered amp well under severe use conditions.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE.......

thinkin this explains a lot on why my amp sucks!

that looks like a 50-75watt power supply
Here is one of my favorite comparisons:
Boss 3000w amp

and powerbass 3000w amp

I don't see any difference, Victor. Alot of times they will tell you all of the brands that use the same board. and the funny part is that they are all rated differently.. for example:
http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Soundstream_XXX6500/

this is the soundstream 6500 watt

also the Audiobahn A4KDN 4000 watt

also the Ground Zero GZPA 1.6000D 6000 watt

also the Lanzar OPTI 4000D 4000 watt

so my question is how can the case that the board is put into make a 2,500 watt difference???

A lot of this has to do with the number of output devices used and how much power each Mosfet can put out. By changing the number of fets or using lower powered fets, the output can be altered a good deal.

Even though they share the same board, all components may not be created equal nor tested/rated in the same manner.

Interesting how the US Acoustics USA2200 and Alphasonic USA 2150 are so similar too. Yes, there are a few notable differences, but the basic guts and outer shells are pretty much the same.

Interesting how this is working out,

I like how they tell you what it is advertised as and what it should be rated at..

Advertized as:
4 x 250W MAX
2 x 500W MAX
Following the specs for other Legacy amps this should be:
4 x 35W @ 4 ohms
4 x 55W @ 2 ohms

If anyone here decides to take pictures and send them in, let's give this website props example: cplkittle from clubknowledge

Hopefully it will bring more members.
