slightly OT: marine audio

I'm putting 2 new 10" marine subwoofers (currently Kicker) and an amp to power them in a guys boat. He has been using regular car amps, which are working ok since they are in a covered locker in the deck of the boat. But they have started to rust some, and we need a new amp for the subs anyways since one currently is working.

Basically, do you guys know of any reputable marine audio companies. (and no, not clarion, pyle, or the like...)

thanx guys!

There's not a large market for Marine-type amplifiers out there. I see JBL does make a few and Aquatic A/V does too.

Speakers are pretty easy to find for Marine use too. But it would seem to me, one could probably use some kind of moisture repelling spray, (or Poly/silicone wax or spray) to block out most problems on metal cases of an amplifier and connection points. Good ol WD-40 is a very good anti-corrosion formula that displaces moisture very well and tolerated very well by almost any metals too.

PS Don't forget the obvious.... adequate grounding off the BAT terminal too. (A good grounding block)

RF, MBQuart, Polk, Blau, DLs, Morel, Kenwood too make some marine products..

JL Audio marine equipment is top notch. i've installed many of them and have yet to see one crap out. JL advertises that you can spray the front of the amplifier with a hose and it won't do a thing to it. i wouldn't go soaking it on purpose or anything, but they are awesome. also, their built-in circuitry prevents engine noise commonly associated with the sometimes 20+ foot ground wires you have to run when installing in boats.

normally I do not promote anything other than the top 7 brands, but I did a boat last year with bazooka's line of marine audio products, and I was really impressed. We put a 400/4 amp on 4 8" full range coax speakers and 2 12" tubes on a 600/1 amp. We later removed the 2 12's there was just too much bass. It is not as good as JL of course, but it is a less expensive option.
I can't remember the name, but it was supposed to be in a boating magazine. we put xm, ipod dock, motorola IHF-1000 bluetooth, and a pioneer 6800 deck in it.

Hey guys, thanx for all your input. Sorry, I have been too busy to respond.

My main concern is durability in the salt water and sun. For instance, I know Kicker is normally a pretty decent brand, but their "marine" subwoofers have corroded apart in less than a year.

Can any of you say anything or have any links that talk about the ability of any of these products to stand up to continuous exposure to a very salty/sunny environment?

Thanks again guys
