Hey guys, back again! This time, it's for my friend. I guess he's been hangin out w/ me too much, because he's finally decided he's ready to "tear apart" his new truck and drop in a bumpin stereo. I've researched everything I need so far. I just wanted to pass my ideas by you guys, see if you would go the same route, or if you have any suggestions for equipment along the same lines as what i've picked out. The sub I am using, for now, is a 12" MTX 9500 4+4. I may downgrade this to an Alpine Type R at some point. I just happen to have the MTX layin around. I'm not worried about having the full 1,000 watts RMS that this sub begs for. I can't decide at all on the bass amp. I know I would rather not use the Power Acoustik amps, but a lot of people here use them and they seem to do quite well for the price. The sub box is ported and tuned to 35 HZ, so having a variable subsonic filter would be a plus. I also can't have an amp taller than 2.5" because I am mounting them under the driver and passenger seats. I will be using a line-out converter running off the factory deck to get a signal to these amps. I'll stop rambling now until I get some input from you guys. Thanx in advance. -Ian- Replies (9) swez on 11/13/2006 09:37:48 Very good choices on the Infinity speakers mentioned. The Kicker 350.4 is plenty strong @ 2 ohms per channel too. Depending on the sub choice he wants, 1000 watts RMS is plenty. For the sake of reliability, stick with a Kicker amp here too if he can swing the price. The ZX750.1 or the ZX1000.1 are both good choices. Power Acoustik makes a decent amp. They are pretty cheap too in cost. Just not sure how reliable and rugged they are, over the long haul. These amps are pretty long too. But as for height restrictions, most amps are profiled for under 3 inches. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, low profile is common. Swez cybersailor420 on 11/13/2006 09:54:33 Thanx for the input Swez, as always!! I am going to stick with the kicker amps as you suggested. I am very indecisive, so it's always good to have someone else give me the "go ahead." -Ian- swez on 11/13/2006 13:40:00 It's kinda funny how many guys here "know" how to build great systems, yet hesitate or second-guess thier gear selections. Why is that? SMILE You'll have plenty of RMS power from the Kicker 300.4. At 2 ohms per channel, this modest amp can do very well. The Kicker sub amps mentioned, are 2 ohm stable. Whatever sub(s) you choose, make sure you get 2 ohms as your target ohmic load. (Optimal output from either amp mentioned). Swez cybersailor420 on 11/13/2006 14:05:41 yup, got that covered! That's one of the reasons that I picked those Infinity components. The sub I have now is a 4+4, and anything I may have him purchase in the future will net 2 ohms as well. I think some people are just always uncertain; like me. I have a hard time deciding whether to have bagels or cereal for breakfast... haha! swez on 11/13/2006 15:37:59 That MTX 9500 is a pretty stout sub. If your customer wants some very strong bass, this should deliver. If he wished to cut cost, but still get very good bass performance, consider the Alpine SWR-1242D, coupled with either the SX650.1 or yes, a ZX750.1 sub amp. Both are pretty robust amps that can deliver a very clean 600 watts RMS + to that sub. If you pay attention to the Alpine's X-max and voltage it gets from the amp, (some simple gain tweaking) either amp will do just fine. Cereal or bagles? Why not a little of both? LOL Swez cybersailor420 on 11/15/2006 10:31:24 That is the exact sub I was going to have them buy once I find someone else to buy the MTX sub. I am going to go with the ZX750.1. I would love to have him get the SX650.1 (which I have 2 of and love) but I know he won't be willing to spend the extra cash for an amp like that. Well, time for that breakfast decision again... swez on 11/15/2006 13:46:11 If you do go with the Alpine sub, consider the Alpine MRP-M650 amp to power it. It is often cheaper than Kicker amps noted, but will deliver solid performance too. Enjoy your breakfast! (Whatever you choose) SMILE Swez cybersailor420 on 11/15/2006 21:56:22 haha! thanx for the second amp opinion. I'll be sure to check that out. -Ian- swez on 11/15/2006 23:53:13 Yep, Alpine makes some very nice amps and well below the prices of Kicker, MTX and often JBL/Infinity too. swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
