TTOCS,

I have a 1992 lincoln town car with JBL premium sound. Is it possible to run an after market head unit with factory swpeakers on the existing amp? I will also be installing two 12" subwoofers on another amp what do u think is the best way to go about this?

Most guys opt for bypassing the factory amps, using more powerful outboard amps and putting in much better quality speakers too. This means running RCA cables to new amps off HU and then tapping into all speakers at the rear mounted factory amps and use them up to OEM or Aftermarket speakers

If you wish to go the integration route, Scosche's OEA-4 kit will do the job for you. This kit allows you to run factory amps and speakers with an aftermarket HU.

Or, skip the factory amps, speaker and kit and go Aftermarket all the way. This is probably the best way to go if you plan to keep the car a while and want well more than factory performance can deliver.

Pick a direction and we can help you map out a step by step strategy to get you there in time.

Q's for you:

1. How much power do you want for your subs?
2. General budget to work with?
3. What is your long term idea of a great system for this Lincoln?

1.) I have a 600w mono amp for two 12' MTX subs and one off brand 12' sub. I have a 1200w 4 chanel mosfet amp for two kenwood door speakers and factory 6' 9's. What I want to do is run the least amount of wiring and if possible utilize the pre-existing amps.

2.) I have all the major components; I am looking to spend as little physical and financial resources as possible.

3.) My long term goal is to have a system that requires as little maintenance as possible. I want loud bass and the clearity to listen to classical music on the way to work.

Thank you for the information on the Scosche kit. I hope the OEA works with my Scosche FDK 106 harness. I found both pieces at Walmart however thay are sold separatley.

The FDK106 harness allows one to use an Aftermarket HU and factory amps.

The Scosche OEA-4 kit is an adapter kit for Aftermarket HU and factory amps too.

Since you have outboard amps and want to use them, neither of these kits are going to give you outboard amping capabilty with an Aftermarket HU system. Take them back as they will not do what you are looking for.

May I suggest that since you have a pair of amps now, focus on a good Aftermarket HU that has 3 pairs of RCA outs. (Front/Rear/Sub signal outputs) This method allows one to bypass the factory amps and you can use the factory speaker output wires as your amped speaker signal lines. (More on that later) The HU will supply "signal level" audio to your 4 channel and sub amps.

In this case, you'll only need a basic adapter harness that feeds power to the aftermarket HU. (Ground, ACC/IGN, Constant Power, Remote amp trigger, Power antenna turn on and ILL wire)

Pick a HU with the features you need and then buy the appropriate adapter kit parts as needed. (Harness adapter, Dash install pocket, Antenna mating jack if needed)

If you like Pioneer, consider either of these HU's from Crutchfield. They also include all adapter kits for your specific vehicle, free tech support and the install master sheet for your vehicle:

2. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-s4vbedybpmV/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=130DEHP480

Both HU's fit your Lincoln and one has a few more whistles and bells for sound shaping EQ and both have I-Pod/MP3 player input options or a CD changer buss link.

Q's for you:

1. What is the make/model number of each amp you have now?
2. Model # of the MTX subs?

I just had a quick question on the same subject, but I want to use the factory amp with a powered aftermarket HU.

I bought a harness that is identical to the Scosche OEA-4 except, it dosent have the Scosche OEA-4 attached to the speaker plug.

I hooked everything up and the HU has power, but wont turn on, and i can hear my amp making a clicking noise every few seconds.

Is the Scosche OEA-4 REQUIRED to get the factory amp to work?

or could i have messed up somewhere?

the OEA4 is not required to get the factory amplifier to work, however getting the factory amplifier to turn on is a must. If there is a popping noise and your radio will not turn on, then there is a good possibility that something is connected wrong.
The only times you absolutely have to bypass a factory amplifier is if you are adding an aftermarket amplifier for the door speakers, or if the factory amplifier is bad.

You mentioned having a mono and a 4channel amplifier, are these hoooked up at all? We need alot of details to track down the problem here.
