Okay, I have a 5 farad power acoustic cap., a 1800 watt 4 chan. amp pushing 2 Fusion 6-1/2's (180w) and 2 Fusion 6x9's (260w), Fusion 600D amp pushing 2 Kicker L5 12's, and a logic 3 ch. crossover. I bought a new car battery in July, I have the cap. hooked up but i cant turn my system up without the cap. cutting out! I think I need to get a smaller amp for my 6.5s and 6x9s or get another battery just for my system, and what would be a good battery to get??? It would help alot!!!

The Cap is just a poor substitue for an inadequately powered set of amplifiers. Here, you might be better off adding a 2nd BAT to buffer the Sub amps demand for current and run the 4 channel off your main BAT/ALT.

Also, upgrading your "Big 3" wiring to #4 gage is also advised and the main power line that feeds each amp and BAT can be helped a lot by using #2 gage off the starter BAT.

As for what secondary BAT to use, the Optima Yellow Top will be a great choice if mounting it in the trunk. They don't leak, vent harmful gasses and is a much better "current buffer" than any Cap will ever be.

Do you know the output specs on your present ALT? (Ie: Max current at idle and above 2,000 RPM) I would hope it's not below 120A's at 2000 RPM. (Check with your GM dealer or a good autoparts store)

For now, adjust amp gaini "sensitivity" levels to keep your amps going. If the amps shut off now, it's b/c they are not set properly for the amount of power you are asking of them and a running out of gas due to low voltage at the amp input lugs. This should help for now. But as a long term fix, use the upgrades noted above.

Got all that?

Thanks alot guys for the info!!! I'll more than likely do both, and I'll be starting soon on the big 3!!

Doing both of those may be just enough to feed your amp(s) and not strain the electricals too hard. It all depends on your listening habits.

When using the secondary BAT, you will not need the Cap on your sub amp. If you note severe light dimming after all this is done, an ALT upgrade is recommended. If light dimming is only present at idle speeds and goes away at driving speeds, you should be fine.
