hi everyone! im new here. i recently bought a pioneer avic-n3 and i've been trying to install it in my 2001 jimmy. i'm having problems finding the ecu (computer box) to get the speed controller wire which is required for the avic n-3. can some one tell me where to find the computer box on my jimmy and which wire it is for the speed controller. or even just show me a link for the computer box diagram. i hope someone can help. thanks guys! -kenny414 Replies (4) swez on 10/4/2006 21:02:48 Most GM vehicles hide the ECM/BCM modules in the passenger seat bolster under and behind where the typical glove box or passenger air bag is located. As for the rest, I'll sit this one out and let a Pro Installer help ya on the Nav install. Have not done one before, so I'd rather learn than show you a wrong path. swez kenny414 on 10/4/2006 22:35:08 Thanks alot swez! i'll check it out tomorrow. i kindda stopped when i got to that point. anyone else have a low down...? UKinstaller on 10/5/2006 09:08:24 well, i looked up your car on Directechs and couldn't find a speed sense wire. beautiful thing about the N3 is that you don't even have to hook the wire up. the navigation will detect how fast you are going and won't even know the wire isn't hooked up. on any of the AVIC systems i hardly ever hook up the speed sense wire. if you want to try, you'll have to probe at the bcm which in your car should be to the right of the accelerator pedal, below the radio. check any plug. if there is a gray colored plug, probe that and possibly check for a green wire, which on most GM's is the color of the speed sense wire. to test for it, you actually have to test for AC voltage on the wire while driving it, so be careful. -UK Pinch on 10/11/2006 09:52:02 Yeah the gyro-sensors in new Pioneers combined with the telemetry of GPS makes for a fairly accurate speed readout without even connecting the VSS wire. In fact, my experience has been that connecting that wire in any nav system (Pioneer and Eclipse tested so far) has actually resulted in a LESS accurate readout on the aftermarket speedo. /my 2 cents -Pinch PS Good to be back online. Oh...and for kicks I visited a couple other car audio forums and laughed at how quickly people berated each other over stupid things. Love the environment here! 3 cheers to the CK fam!
