was wondering if this http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16918 would do a great job with with this rite here http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/specs/mm12/ or alpine Alpine MRP-M650. what good. i already have this sub. but i want a good amp that will last. Replies (15) Victor on 10/2/2006 10:39:21 that is a pretty good sub, plays very clean if installed well and coupled with a good amp .. more power is always good, but needs to be handled well. The kicker would be a bit of over powering, but can do a great job, tho I would personally prefer pairing that wub with the alpine MRP 650. I suggest you go for the Alpine Amp and you cant be happier. Victor... swez on 10/2/2006 15:15:17 This is a fair combo. The Kicker amp puts out the most power at 2 ohms. That sub is a 4 ohm version and if you wanted to use this amp, a pair of Momo's would not be a bad idea. However, if you want only 1 sub, here is where a 2 channel, bridged amp does come in handy. OR, consider the JL 500/1 or Phoenix Gold Xenon: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14134 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12977 swez Victor on 10/2/2006 15:44:30 sorry... i skipped reading something.. didnt pay attention to SVC - DVC issue,, since DVC's are in these days, i kinda took it for granted.. if thats a 4 ohm SVC the kicker and the JL , PG amps swez showed wud be a better combo.. MrBrownstone on 10/2/2006 16:36:01 I think for the sake of output, either 2 sealed or vented woofers would be a better installation idea. Not a lot of people are satisfied with one 12 unless they are old like Swez and ***gulp*** myself just looking at rounding off the frequency response curve. Are you planning on getting 2 subs..eventually? If so, get the amp, it's a great choice. Otherwise, you may want to either choose a different woofer configuration (2 ohm) or different amplifier. Victor on 10/2/2006 17:16:41 one 12" sealed 500wrms sub, is plenty for me,,, Mr. B... am just 26 yrs "OLD"....hehehehehe swez on 10/2/2006 19:45:40 An SPL target # of 125-130 dB is plenty of reserve bass power for me too. Under normal use, 110dB is plenty. But when I really like a given song and want to crack that throttle a bit, 130dB is more than enough. Basically, I desire to keep my hearing up to snuff for many years. Why? When fishing at night in the dark, we need keen hearing. When using delicate flies and long casts, (10-12 meters) we may not feel the tentative bite of a bass or trout on the line. However, you can hear when a fish comes up and "sips" that fly in. Then, it's time to set the hook and see if ya got him or not. That takes keen hearing and I hope to keep it that way for a long time to come. hehe swez MrBrownstone on 10/3/2006 03:01:12 Victor 26? and you already need Viagra? That it Sad. I won't be giving up the Dessy Bells until I detect someone farting, but blame it on someone else because I can't hear myself doing it. :-) mopperz on 10/3/2006 21:52:09 im not planning on upgrading at all this time soon. so overall what will be a good amp for this POLK MOMO sub. or the ones that r listed is fine. pheonix Gold. is it better to go with mono amp class d? swez on 10/4/2006 10:37:45 For subs, a Class D is a good option as it is very efficient, clean sounding for bass and often lower cost than 2 channel amps of similar power ratings. The Polk MOMO 12 can take 500 watts continous input power and is a very good SQL sub. You can use any amp that delivers 300-600 watts RMS @ a 4 ohms. I recommend the JL 500/1 or PG's Xenon series as they deliver the stated output at 1.5 - 4.0 ohm loads. JBL now has a newer Class D that would do a very nice job for you. Here's a very good price on PG amps: http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?currentpage=2&fuseaction=page.display&page_id=14&mfg_account_ID=18 ($178.00) Swez mopperz on 10/5/2006 22:23:58 okay kool. i thinking of getting capacitor. which one is it i need or do i or dont need one? swez on 10/6/2006 05:55:34 Nope, save your cash for better things. swez mopperz on 10/9/2006 23:33:51 hey swez would this phoenix gold xenon x600.1 be to much for the polk momo that i got? swez on 10/10/2006 16:16:36 Yes... the Polk is rated at 500 RMS @ 4 ohms and would love +500 watts of clean bass signals. This allows for very clean and strong bass from the Polk and if set up properly, bass peaks will not be clipping from the amp and that makes any sub very happy to take a big spike of unclipped bass. swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
