I picked up the Alpine IVA-310 Indash DVD. The wiring diagram shows that there are 2 wires (that I'm not familiar with) one connecting to the parking brake and another connecting to the foot brake. What is the purpose of these two? Will it work if I don't connect these two wires? Also is there anyway to keep my existing Alpine head unit and also install the dvd player? Replies (4) UKinstaller on 10/2/2006 06:53:23 the brake wires are so you can't watch tv while driving. however, on the IVA-d310, if you don't hook them up, not only can you not watch dvd's on it at all, you also can't get into sound options. best bet is to get the PTR7 bypass from peripheral aka PAC RT7. same product, same result, bypasses alpine in-dash security. as for keeping your current alpine head unit, why would you want to do that?? the 310 is gonna be better than any regular head unit you've got now. scrap it. -UK Corbpm1 on 10/8/2006 11:49:53 Thanks for the help. There is another connection which is still confusing to me. On this unit, there is a video output going from the tuner box to the head unit. but there is not an input signal from the head unit to the tuner box, so how would the dvd/cd signals get to the tuner box? There is also one more connection on the head unit that says to remote control interface box. Is this the same as the tuner box? If so then where and how do I connect this? It didn't come with a connector wire for this. Pinch on 10/11/2006 10:10:08 UK is right, those wires are so the screen knows when to turn on. Specifically, the brain inside the IVA-d310 waits to see a certain combination of ground pulses on the foot-brake/e-brake wires (rather than just for a single wire to be grounded as is the case for older screens). This safety feature exists to keep all motorists' focus on the road ahead. If you decide to bypass this safety feature keep this in mind: there are SOOO many distractions to take our focus off the road before adding movies to the equation. Sure, you may be a great driver but you need all your wits about you so you can be ready for the "other guy" who may be a bad driver, drunk, not paying attention, or *gasp* a bad drunk driver who is not paying attention. Not to mention in many states it is illegal for a screen to display video while in motion if the driver can see it. I don't mean to be negative, but this is sort of a sensative subject to me. Peace. -Pinch Corbpm1 on 10/12/2006 22:44:08 I agree with you. The reason I want to by pass this safety is so that the passenger can watch movies while I drive.
