Of course you can silly =)

The only thing that limits what you can do, is your own imagination (plus cash and reality of course)

It's best to have both woofers on the same plane (straight across from each other,...or as close to parallel as possible. However, people do this all the time.

The main concern is that you have enough airspace for the woofers. Try to give us a little more info on the system you are setting up and we'll be able to better advise you on putting it all together.

Try buying a microphone and a high efficiency horn speaker and mount it up your car,, and shout into the mic all the while u drive.. everyone will be able to hear you... hehehehehe

Dude that is some cheap stuff u looking at..

Go for products from reputed manufacturers and u will be happier for long.. If you look around well, and try your luck at e-bay, am sure u wud be able to find some good grear at some great price...

The subs are fair and it would be good to run each sub off their own amp or use a strong 2 channel so that each channel feeds 1 sub. (2 ohms per channel is net load)

We have found Legacy gear to be well under advertised power and quality. Avoid this one for high powered sub applications.

Consider using 1 quality sub and 1 quality amp initially. This will give you solid bass performance and cost less to buy, in the beginning. If you desire even more bass SPL, then duplicate the setup with a matching pair of sub and amp combo. This can be done later, as the budget permits.

FYI: A single 1000 watt RMS (Class D amp) will draw about 75-80 amperes at full power. Your stock ALT is probably 105A's peak and 50A's at idle. This sub amp will really put a major strain on a stock system, depending on how you use it .

Keep that in mind as you plan the whole system OK?

there are 3 types of manufacturers:

1. Ones whose products exceed their ratings
2. Ones that meet their ratings
3. Ones that do not meet their ratings.

I'm going to share with you a little about budget and car audio. I hope it makes sense.

A long time ago, in a land far away, there was this young high school graduate, ...alright, never mind, the short version.

When you buy a Kleenex to do a job worthy of a bath towel, what do you get? Wet hands, disappointment, and a bigger mess than you were hoping for.

Although the speakers are decent, subwoofer box design and fine-tuning are more important than budget. I say this because no matter how LITTLE you WANT to spend, ultimately, you'll need to spend a lot more money than $600 to get decent results.

In this case, you're really getting a 300W amplifier...with limited reliability. When it comes to equipment, I'd plan on spending $300 to $500 on the powerplant alone if you want to be happy with the results.

In your case, the speakers really aren't that bad of a choice. They are a little on the glamour less on the performance, but will do decent. However, the amplifier is so overrated that I'd suggest you save your money until you get the funds to do this right.

Minimum cost of a twin 12" subwoofer system, 1kW amp, wiring, and a head unit are about $1200 total. Spending less will result in you buying a piece (literally 'a piece') of equipment that will not do the job, AND, be difficult to sell as noone wants to buy a product that they know doesn't work well. Don't get stuck with crap equipment. Instead, decide:

1. How important quality sound is to you
2. How ambitious you are with working on the system
3. Future upgrades (car audio is an addiction :-))

After that, let's decide on a better plan of attack before spending money, ok?

Here's a few links to assist you in determine the value of equipment and quality of sound. Take a few moments.

lukeduke28 on 09/19/2006 00:32:45
wow, thats crazy. so there is no way to get a good system under $2,ooo. according to the $1.50-$2.50/watt system i imagine thats what it would come out to be..

well i have nowhere that amount so it looks like im done on this website.

Victor on 09/19/2006 02:16:31
It aint about this site.. as Mr,B said, u have 3 types of equipment..

1 exceeding thie ratings,
2 the ones which meet their ratings
3 the ones that do not meet the ratings

type one can cost u around 2 -4$ @ watt
type two can cost you around 1-2$ @ watt
type three can be lower than 1$@ watt

Depends on what level of quality and reliability you are expecting to buy

keep in mind this is about retail pricing, and these days the retail channel has really suffered due to alternative sales and advertising channels..

you have multiple sources for procuring the products u wish to and in this competitive market find some great pricing that meets your budget too..

for Ex. An Above average , excellent performing and reliable Alpine amp that sells MSRP for $ 350 for a 300wrms@4ohms class D amp, can be bought for as less as $160 on e-bay or a few other websites, and some whole sellers and other chain of shops.. that doesnt mean that the same alpine amp is not good.......

Also.. since I am into handling Cerwin Vega for India, I know what kind factors affect the retail pricing.

as simple as this a $50 FOB rate the manufacturer gives to the importer has to be sold at $140 retail...... all this boost is due to various kinda taxes and includes the expenses made at various stages of Distributor & Dealer, and most importantly margins of all the middle men in the sales chain......

These alternative channels unlike the conservative sales channel eliminates these middle men and are better equipped to evade max possible taxes and decrease the expenses, so they can afford to sell the same product for a much much lower price...

the article that Mr.B writes is simply correct, but one needs to understand that he is referring to Retail Prices.

Agree that this hobby is pretty hard on the wallet. However, if one shops well and knows where to look, there are some very good deals out there.

As a starter system for your bass engine, consider using just 1 good sub for now. Coupled with a good amp, you may find this to be all that is needed.

Those Bahn subs are fair. They can take some power and make some noise too. But the overall quality of bass you get, depends more on the enclosure used and adequate power from a given amp. May I suggest a starter kit that will not bust your wallet on the first pass?

1. One of those Bahn subs: AW1206T (~$100.00 - 125.00 +S/H)

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/viewitem.php?id=133

http://www.caraudiodeals.com/product_info.php?products_id=28

2. Kenwood KAC-9102D amp (~$185.00 + S/H)

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14933

3. Sub enclosure:

Sealed:
http://www.cardomain.com/item/RTE31612
http://www.cardomain.com/item/QLCQLH10012SS

Ported: See notes below

The AW1206T can be used in sealed or ported enclosure designs. At this power rating, a sealed box of 1.0 -1.25 cf will do well. If you wanted a ported box for better low bass extension, consider a ported box in a range between 2.0 - 2.5 cf, tuned to say 30 Hz.

NOTE: It might be best to make a custom ported box for this sub per specs off Bahn's website. If you are good at wood working and have the skills/tools, materials will cost about $60-80.00. If custom built for your vehicle and sub, figure at least $150.00 for this option.

The best location for the woofer box is usually butted up to the rear seats and firing toward the rear bumper. If you have a flip down seat, bass in the passenger cabin will be notable better than in a sealed trunk install.

OK, there's a basic bass engine package that will meet your $600.00 budget. All that is needed now, is a #4 gage wiring kit and a few other odds & sods to complete the plan.

How's that sound to you?

that sounds more like it, retail price compared to actual price. had me thinkin that amps were gonna be over $1000.

that looks good, but im still lookin around so ill keep in touch, thanks..

It sounds like there was some misreading going on as well. $1/watt @ 4OHMS...not at 1 ohm.

ex: Memphis 1100Wx1 @ 1 ohm is actually a 300Wx1 @ 4 ohms...$2/watt retail is what you'd expect. That's why you are paying $600 retail for the amp, because it EXCEEDS its rated power.

The operative word, AT FOUR OHMS. Of course, you fully expect class Ds to operate at 1 ohm for smaller models, or 2 ohms for the massive models.

To be honest, I feign to believe you would be satisfied with your system if you didn't spend $1000...but more likely $1300 when it's all said and done. Granted, you could buy the head unit last, get the woofers & amp first...but ultimately, you'll need to spend $1000 before you can expect great results.

Kinda like trying to buy a good new car for less than 10k. $18k is what you can expect.

Victor on 09/23/2006 16:17:02
e-bay and other internet sites have changed the scenario......... Bulk buyers and elemination of middlemen can have a major effect on the pricing, whatever B. says is a very good measure for those days when the market was amateur, no offence meant, but things in the market have changed not a bit, but a lot..

setting up CV has been a great learning experience, where in I learnt how to evade taxes, play with numbers smartly and give the maximum possible margin to the distributor/dealer as well as keep the MRP low at the same time.

and a product that sells for $ 100, actually is produced in not more than $30 including the manufacturer margin.

This increase is cause of various factors in the sales chain, but these are such that they can be manupilated with a bit of smart number game,

If one gets it right, you can really put out great products in the market at a very very good price and also manage to satisfy the market at all levels till the end consumer..

Just wanna put my 2 cents in.One decent sub in the right enclosure will definately "make you heard before your seen".I suggest ported if you mostly listen to rap.Sometimes 1 sub in the right ported box and right power will sound just as loud if not louder than two.I personally didn't like the akwardness of only having one sub but once I heard a similar setup to what I have, I was convinced that one will work.It also saves the money of having to buy two woofers. One last thing about ported is if the box is tuned right and the box is bigger the less wattage you can use to get the woofer's full potential,so less wattage means less money spent on a powerhouse of an amp. I currently run a Cadence Tripple X with a Rockford Fosgate P6002 in a ported box built to spec and the outcome is amazing. P.S. Just want to try and give some advice and help somebody else out on this site like the many who have helped me and saved me a ton of money!

dont bother with cheaper amps, you can get far better sound out of the cheaper subs with a decent amp, as for enclosures, try a good single sub in a much larger ported enclosure with a good amp, the money you save on the second sub will earn you a good amp and the larger ported box will produce just as much sound as 2 subs in smaller enclosures. Go to ddaudio.com for good advice about enclosure size and tuning. Forget the old sealed junk box, did you ever see a $5000 home audio speaker setup use sealed enclosures, I thought not. Ported is like getting free sound quality and free output! I have one cheap phoenix gold octane r woofer with a good (overpowered) kicker 600.1 and Im hitting 141 with a single 10 inch woofer! I have hit over 150 db with a single 15 and 2000 watts!

ShootuhMcBustaCap on 11/2/2006 01:20:47
I agree with most that is said here, Expecially ith Lethal's single 10" statement. With the right sub and right box, you can make a good bass engine for $600. 300RMS is enough to be heard before your seen, any wattage can do that, It' all about the sub you match it up with. I penetrate walls a block away with 400 watts Peak. All about the pairing

You'll still need a head unit, but those can be found for cheap.

Check out walmart for your power and ground cable. 4/5 AWG. kit for 24.99. Radio shack had good RCA cables for around 15-30 dollars, depending on length. Smaller 12-8 AWG is what I use for speaker cable, you can find enough. So figure around 50-60 for all you need here.

Alpine has your amp man! Look for a good DVC 4 ohm sub, and their budget Class D amps can treat you well. Try to find an MRP-M350 or -450. Usually 100-200 on ebay.

Subs, Here I would reccomend a dual 4 ohm unit for sure. Check out the Infinity Reference (300 RMS, can be had for less than $100 anywhere), Infinity perfect, (400RMS, a bit pricier) Alpine Type R (500RMS, These are EVERYWHERE on ebay man) or a Diamond audio D3. (400RMS, A bit pricier than the others I've listed, but these things KILL!)

If you can't be heard first with $600, you need some serious help. You ain't gotta be a balla to bump! I did it with $85 my first system, and I do it now with $160. Be pateint, and scope for good deals like a sniper!

Hope I helped you man!
