Hey i just got my Sony Xplod 1200 watt amp. The power light comes on when the radio is on, I have it ground to the chassis, and the rca cables and speaker wire plugged in all correct, but my subs do not turn on. I tried my 2 10's and then a seperate 10" i happened to hgave. It doesn't turn on it isn't even that old, what could be the problem? Replies (7) lessismorespl on 09/14/2006 21:56:25 if I was to make an educated guess, I would say it is one of the following: 1. RCA cables are bad. Troubleshoot by trying another pair of RCA cables. 2. RCA outputs on radio are bad. Troubleshoot by either trying another H/U, or if your present H/U has multiple outputs, try one of the other outputs. 3. The RCA inputs on the amp are bad. If the top 2 do not work, this will most likely be the problem. Have you tested the subs? Try these, if it does not solve or answer your problem, then go to a shop and have the amp tested. less Zach1989 on 09/14/2006 22:07:56 The sub does not work. I have tried switchin rca cables. I tried, The rca cables are brand new, these have worked befor the new amp. i have tried all rca combotioniations correct i have tried all those combonations of rca, now what else could be wrong swez on 09/15/2006 00:45:17 Check your amp with known good speakers, (subs) and use a known good "Source Unit" like a portable player and headphone jack to RCA patch cables. (Plugged into the RCA's of your amp) If these tests and Less' suggestions do not work, the amp may have some problems to be addressed by a qualified Tech. swez Zach1989 on 09/15/2006 15:55:20 Yea I tested it up and the rca inputs on the amp are bad, is there a way I could go in and fix that or should a tech do that? and if so about how much are we talking about for fixing it? MrBrownstone on 09/15/2006 18:55:10 get the electronics place to give you an estimate. If the cost of restoring is less than 1/3 the cost of buying a new amp, then do it. Otherwise, ditch it. lessismorespl on 09/15/2006 20:13:17 It is not that difficult, however it should be handled by a tech. Most likely it is just the input female plugs, which are inexspensive. Most places charge you a deposit, if the cost is more they let you know and you can decide from there. In most cases, a job like this would probably run $50-$75(mostly labor....the parts are like $10-$20....and in most cases they will just use a good pair of RCA's from a blown amp they have laying around.....remember, techs make $35-$50 an hour) depending on how greedy the tech wants to be, and in some cases the store itself charges a service fee...so it can depend. Considering what a Sony amp costs, I would look into buying a new amp. You can get a decent quality amp for under $200, just look around. less swez on 09/15/2006 20:51:38 Actually, this does require a delicate hand, specific tools and some knowledge of electronic circuit diagnostics and repair. Simple for the trained tech, but challenging for those who don't have that background. Greedy Techs? Tech's get a fraction of that fee mentioned. The shop owner sets the fees to cover his overhead and such. The tech just does the grunt work for peanuts. ($10 - 18.00/hr., tops) Also, don't even think of getting any helpful support on parts from Sony on your own. A service center can get OEM parts in a few days to a few weeks. However, in this case, you might do well to just have RCA pigtails installed. A set of those can be had anywhere for a few lousy bucks and less than 1 hour labor to do the job. Any TV repair shop Tech can test and perhaps repair an amp, if this is all that is needed. swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
