Is it possible to wire an EQ to your front and rear speakers without having an amplifier?

Only if the EQ has built in amplifier circuits and designed to power speakers. Most of those are not worth mentioning either. They are often cheap, noisy and not a good way to get best results.

In 99% of the installs, we use an Aftermarket radio, (HU = Head Unit) and connect RCA cables from the HU to EQ, then outboard amps which then connect to your speakers.

BOOSTER EQ WHHOOOO HHHOOOO!!!!!!

As swez said they are not known for their great sound quality, and we aften just called them audible tachometers since the noise varied with the engine rpm...

Is this for your cutlass?

Unfortunately, I have to agree with ttocs...booster/EQs are just bandaids to what you really need...an amplification device. Those things put out about 15 watts clean...about 2xs what a head unit does.

The purpose of an eq (like the ones installed in factory stereos or in Pioneer higher end units) are to level out the sound to compensate for the acoustics of the car. What you'll find out, like everyone else does, is once you meddle with the output, you'll just end up cutting the 500Hz, 1kHz, 1.5kHz, etc until basically you have the bass &treble maxed out.

It's not that you dislike midrange, it's that you crave more power. At lower volumes, our hearing tends to be deficient in the lower and higher reaches of the human audio spectrum (below 400Hz and above 5kHz). Hence, you'll end up either cutting the middle or boosting the ends to compensate for hearing. After that, once you turn up the sound, you'll want to constantly be adjusting the EQ..

If you are that serious about EQing your system, get amplifier power, and do it right the first time, you'll thank us later.

I already have a Kenwood hu, a mono ch amp, and a 12" sub. The EQ is a sherwood xq-1102. Would it be worth hooking it up just for the subwoofer crossover?

Do you have a link to this product for specs?

What are the # of bands and values of each slider/pot on this EQ?
(eg: 60, 250, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000)

PS If this is basically what you have now, anything above 100 Hz., will not have much effect on a sub amp or sub.

If you have a mono amp made in the last 5 yrs, there's probably a perfectly good crossover on that.
