One of the perks of my company is after 7 yrs of service, I get a 2 month paid sabaticalGRIN. I just crossed over the 6 yr mark and have been kicking around a couple of ideas, but I today I decidedIDEA to take a trip along the west coast to have a one more summer of fun that I want to start planning and saving for. I am gonna start by camping on the beach in mexico till I am tired of eating fresh fish and shrimp grilled over the fire during sunsetHAPPY. Then when that is old head north hitting points of interest for mountain biking and other fun stuff until I end up in Whistler, mountain bike downhill meccaCLAP.... I think I would like to get some surfing lessons somewhere, maybe buy a board and and wetsuit and hit some fun spots as well. I have always wanted to go scuba diving and sky diving againTHINK... Yellowstone, Moab, Monteray Bay, San fran, and where else would you go, what would you do? I want to have a loose itinerary and camp most of the way, splurging at a few nice resorts that my timeshare will trade to enjoy a spa and day by the pool. I am going to finish the rack on my truck so that it will be able to carry enough gear for an extendid trip, I have most of the camping stuff already. I put a hard bed cover on it last year, and also a bike rack that is on top of it that carrys two bikes and has a little more room. I have a buddy with a pipe bender and a welder who is gonne help me make a basket to inbetween the bike mounts so I can throw lash extra gear to it, or a surf board. I have been thinking of an idea for some pressure switches that could hook up to the alarm to secure it all including the bikes. I also have been planning on getting some linear actuators for the cover so that between those and a tailgate lock, the bed will be secure as well. This will also motivate me to finish the stereo I hope, cool weather is comming so I can work outta my garage in <100 degree weather..... So I have been to a couple of spots along the coast, but would love to hear of anyplaces that you would recomend? I was thinkin about it while cleanin up the back yard and now can't get it out of my head. I want to get a map tomorrow and some tacks.... Also, go check out the Redwoods, (Giant trees and forests, north of SF) Chances are good, you'll find many great M-bike trails in that area too. How about hang-gliding or Para-sailing as part of this trek? That looks so cool and if you liked parachute jumping, this will be the next notch up in a flying experience. Just be sure you get a good instructor to take you through the details. Sounds great mang!!! What a cool company to work for, Swez ttocs on 09/1/2006 12:42:37 its a big company so it has its good and bad points. It has great benefits but it also has alot of political bs, as well as being a number in a large data base... I take the good with the bad..... Redwoods, always did want to see those, might be worth camping fer a day or two there, thanks for the suggestion! As for wine tasting, I am allergic to the sulfites that are in wine. It makes me turn all blotchy, its kinda neat as the areas on my arms where I had the road rash from the motorcycle wreck turn pink.... But I still avoid it. I would like to take my dog as well if i can swing it. She is a really well behaved 15 lb mutt that is pretty easy to take care of and is a great companion, as well as total chick magnet......... Do we have any west coasters next to Mr. B? emoboywyl on 09/1/2006 12:52:41 I grew up in S.F. I always loved hanging out in Berkley, Telegraph is such a fun place to kick it. All kinds of neat and interesting people and vendors. The haight/ashbury in San Francisco is also a really nifty spot. You could always go and visit Alcatraz, that was a really inspiring trip for me as a youngun. Most places in that area are very doggie friendly, so you shouldn't really have any problems with bringing her. Also, this time of year, if you're into it the Shakespear Festival is going on in Ashland, OR. The plays are really great, the people are totally hilarious, and it's legal to be naked. =) I went to college there. Lots of cute topless hippie girls. hehehehe ttocs on 09/1/2006 13:49:19 "Also, this time of year, if you're into it the Shakespear Festival is going on in Ashland, OR. I have been around san fran once or twice, and haight/ashbury. Funny enough when my brother and I were bummin around there alone on a family trip, we were offered acid by some guy that had barely said hi(litterally I guess) to us...... I have never done it, at that time I was maybe 16 so we politly declined since we were lookin fer the bus to go meet our folks. That would have been interesting..... I know my timeshare has direct exchange with a couple of nice places there, its on the list. This is also on the list. Check out the gravity games camp pics..... http://www.whistlerbike.com/camps-lessons/camps/index.htm I am thinkin more the freeride stuff, always been impressed with that. I also remembered there is a guy at work that recently became certified to certify scuba divers. Gonna hit him up... lilschtive on 09/5/2006 23:21:29 i live In san jose california. I've been down to mexico, you'll have the most fun there. Santz Cruz california is a very interesting place. By interesting, i mean everyone "interesting" is there! go have a crab melt for lunch out on the warf, watch the huge seals and watch the fisherman. The boardwalk is right next door and is filled with people, entertainment and rides. i know some great local hiking trails, biking ect.. some awesome wineries around where i live up in the mountains. in mexico, parasailing is awesome. ive done it once, and i tell you, cruising that high up above cabo san lucas was one of my life highlights. and its a friggin rush! i dont find san francisco that much entertaining, except for all the differnt types of people you see. yellowstone is great if your into hiking, views and a lot of self reflection. its an awesome place. there is a 10,000 foot mountain that is totally climable(lambert dome). Went there and did it, took 4 hours. Great workout, and historical marks along the way. in a clear day, some say you can see the bay area..preety incredible, just dont slip or you will die. yellowstone would also be great for hiking. go see the worlds largets redwood tree. Its ridiculously big, class of 36 couldn't fit half way around of it shoulder to shoudler. San francisco zoo is preety cool too. Go watch a giants game, and see barry steriods, i mean barry bonds hit a home run. lilschtive on 09/5/2006 23:29:49 hit up San Diego and L.A on your way up. You'll find anyhting you want there. Go to the beach in Longbeach and you'll see the hottet babes ever MrBrownstone on 09/6/2006 00:01:37 Blacks Beach in SD is a NUDE beach......something to consider ttocs on 09/7/2006 09:20:59 we got plenty of hotties out here in the desert. I have been down to mexico a couple of times but this time I want to camp on the beach and just chill out. Sad diego, LA, all of them are on the list, now blacks beach is a new one to consider....... Is that all ya got fer me B? MrBrownstone on 09/7/2006 16:02:32 What, so you're not satisfied with 'letting it all hang out'? Actually, there's the usual things, Seaworld, Wild Animal Park, Touring the Naval area (not the bellybutton area like @ Black's) ..or there's the restaurants downtown, desert, mountain, desert, mountain, repeat as necessary. Guess I'm not a clubber, so I don't do a lot of the booze establishments. There's Fashion Valley if you want to see top drawer women where they reside, in a mall. Arizona women hot? I thought the only reason they don't have vegetation in that state is because the cheerleaders ate all the natural turf. Hmm..guess I was wrong. At any rate, SD is a pretty laid back town...but the weather is 86 in the summer, 66 in the dead of winter, and a few degrees off that from time to time.
