I currently have a Pioneer Premier 860. Yesterday I turned my car on, and after a few seconds I heard a really loud pop (almost like a bang) through my stereo. Ever since then, I have been getting tons of noise through the outputs from my cd player (popping noise when changing source or turning volume on and off, lots of interference like engine noise even when the car is off). I tested the stereo with a direct input from a portable cd player, and had no problems. So I figure it's time for a new cd player. The first one to catch my attention is the Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069882_291159553_tab=B,00.html?compName=PNA_V3_ProductDetailsComponent The main things I like about these Pioneer cd players are the built-in crossovers, the 13/16 band equalizers, the auxiliary input, and the high-voltage RCA outputs. The color display is a nice extra feature too. My reason for posting is that I only really have experience with Pioneer head units. I didn't know if anyone might have some suggestions about comparable head units from other companies. Thanx for any input. -Ian- Replies (4) swez on 08/30/2006 20:03:58 Check the ground wire on your HU. It sounds like this HU may have lost its primary ground and all that noise is a symtom of lost ground or poor grounding. DO NOT USE the harness grounds. Use a dedicated ground from HU chassis to floor pan or metal dash brackets behind the HU, in the dash. With a little luck, you may be OK with the 860MP again. If not, then go shopping again. Swez cybersailor420 on 08/30/2006 22:55:46 thanx for the input swez. i do have my head unit grounded to a metal part of the dash behind the HU. i did give it a quick check to make sure it was still connected, but i think tomorrow i'll just cut it off and try a known good ground. do you think running wire from my ground distribution block from the back up to the head unit would be an ok check (if i used like 4 or 8 gauge wire)? let me know what you think. also, i have started contemplating getting an in-dash dvd touch screen unit, since i have always wanted one. however, i have never seen one with decent features such as a good eq or crossovers and such. any opinions on these? thanks again guys. -Ian- ttocs on 08/31/2006 01:38:33 Wiggle(technical term) the hrns on the back and anyplace there is a connection. What kind of connections did you use? By the sound of the "pop or bang" it sounds like it could be a cap or transistor that exploded and be repairable. If you just want a new toy and don't wanna deal with the repair, I'de be happy to make an offer on it broken. Looks like a descent deck and I can throw it at our shop tech and get it fixed for the price of parts, and a case of Dr pepper for his time(no joke?!). I really don't have a personal need for it as I am really happy with my alpine, but I have a couple of buddy's that have inquired about cd players new or used. I have worked mainly with Alpine and do not have a bad thing to say about them. The new models are great but of course cost a little bit more then some others. I can't quote ya prices since I am the guy in the back pointing the wrench. They pretty much just point at the car, grunt at the equipment, aaaaand I go from there... cplkittle on 08/31/2006 17:46:42 Pioneer has always made a great head unit. If you do go with the premier I think you will really enjoy it. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
