Are U.S. Amps good?

I just recently purchased two 12 L7s with a Dual 4ohm voice coil, and i purchased a U.S.Amp that is 2,000 watts RMS. The model for the amp is AX-2000 i believe. The wiring kit i got for this is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&item=270016142413&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Would any one know if i would need like a back cap or something else to give me the full performance of this set up?

Yes, US Amps are one of the better SPL bass engines out there. Depending on the maximum current draw this amp pulls at full power, a major electrical upgrade is a sure bet.

1. H.O. ALT (200 amperes at min. 250 is better)
2. Big 3 upgrade (see FAQ for details)
3. 800 - 1000 CCA rated BAT
4. 1/0 gage wiring kit (if you have more than 1 amp here)
5. A 5 Farad cap would be useless here

Do you know what fusing is recommended for this amplifier? (See owners/Install manual)

Best guess, this amp is fused at 50 x 3 = 150 amperes That's a large format ANL if using an inline fuse body.

I'd say you have about $800.00 - $1,000.00 in electrical upgrades to power this amp properly and the truck to run well. It depends on where you get your parts and who does the upgrades.

Frankly Celio, it would seem you bit off more than one can easily chew here. This project will become a "money pit" unless cash is not an issue. This is the Texas-sized, 24 oz T-Bone steak with all the trimmings. Belly up to the table and get that fat wallet ready. This venture is gonna be a big $$$$ when done. Whew... this amp is one big enchilada.

Good luck,

yeah i know its a money pit, but i mean im already 3/4ths of the way there. i purchased the amp, the subs, and a 0 gauge wiring kit. now i need the box and the upgrades. So its expensive, but what do you think about the amp matched with those 2 subs? oh and what did you say about a capacitor? would i need one or no. thanks again. JUST ASKING what happens if right now i can't afford to upgrade my electricals, what would happen if i do the install?

Hehe, I got the cart... but need a horse to pull same...

OK, read item #5 on Caps.

5. A 5 Farad cap would be useless here

Without any major electrical upgrades, you can use this amp safely, but not at full power just yet. Your truck needs about 50 amps of current to operate all essential circuits. This amp will pull well over 100 amps at full power. The stock ALT for GM light trucks is 105-120A's, unless it has a HD trailer package kit installed.

During the day, (no headlights on) you can dial it up and if you have a voltage gage on the dash, when it drops below 12.8 volts turn down the bass. I believe one can buy voltage monitors that plug into the cigarette lighter. Need one that displays a number... not green or red zones only. In fact, buy a low cost digital volt meter and use that for now. If you plan to install this gear yourself, gonna need a meter anyway. Just get one of those cigarette lighter male plugs with a pair of wires on it and connect the meter and read the DC voltage display... (20 volt DC scale is good nuff)

Big 3 upgrade, look here and follow the link:

Wanna do this install on your own? Sure... but it's gonna take some research, input from CK guys and some careful attention to details we offer, to do the job right the first time out.

Where can i purchase a 250 AMP Alternator for a good price?

swez on 08/31/2006 14:00:08
You can try E-bay motor parts and the list below:

www.Stinger.com

www.OhioGenerator.com

www.motocityreman.com

None will be cheap as these guys now know there's good money in car audio electrical upgrades. Figure about $1.50 - 2.00 per ampere as a baseline for prices.

Good luck,

also ask your local alternator shops if they offer HO alternators.. I know it is rare, but I found a good one here in chattanooga. His HO alternators are the EXACT same thing as stinger and less than half the price. Have them explain to you everything they put into a HO alternator. If they know what they are talking about and stand behind their product they should have no problem explaining how they are put together.

Alright i will do both of those things. thanks, thats really good help, because i know a stock alternator won't give me the performance i need.
