Is it possible to have 2 (12L7s) in a sealed box under the back seat of a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado ext cab? Replies (17) swez on 08/12/2006 10:26:44 It is indeed possible to do this. Kicker states the sealed box recommendations between 0.88 to 2.0 cf/sub. Frankly, I would not go much smaller than 1.25 cf/sub or low bass will suffer a lot. The sub baskets are almost 7 inches deep, so your box would have to average out to about 10 inches tall, (Height) and use a wedge design that allows for the seat clearances. Here's the .pdf spec sheet on these subs: http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-support/manuals/manuals/2006/2006%20L7%20Sub%20b01%20WEB.pdf Swez PS I would suggest using a pair of the 2+2 DVC's here and your net load will be 2 ohms when wired series/parallel. Most Class D MONO amps do well at 2 ohms, but a 1 ohm can be very hard on all but the best Competition amps. (Or HC... High Current amps) The ZX-1500.1 is a good match here. The SX-1250.1 can do 1 ohm loads, but I'd go with the ZX-1500.1 here. cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 13:27:51 Hey Swez thanks for the info. This is really helpful, because for some reason i thought it couldn't be done. I've gone to some audio shops around town and they say the only thing you could have under ur back seats were 2 10's and they couldn't be the big ones neither it had to be like low end stuff. cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 13:45:52 Oh and swez with this set up, would my truck be hitting hard, like the bass, or would it be kind of cheap because its a sealed box, and its not too big? thanks in advance you're a big help Victor on 08/12/2006 15:17:25 2 x 12" L7's with 1500wrms.. is LOUD... atleast for a SQ loving guy like me.. forget hitting hard, its gonna rock your vehicle.. one more aspect you need to look into, its something you should not and u wont be able to ignore is Sound Damping, with that kinda bass things are rattling for sure.. Victor... swez on 08/12/2006 15:25:10 Anything can be done if you are willing to give up some rear seat space and can build (Or have a sub enclosure built to fit that space. If you want deep lows from these subs, a sealed box will deliver it in the smallest possible enclosure. However, woofers need room to breath when pounding out the heavy bass stuff. That's why I suggested you going with 1.25 cf/sub at a minimum. The problem is in design and fabrication of such enclosures that fit the space you have availble here. If you had some pics and general dimensions of the space you have to work with, am sure someone here can come up with a few cleaver ideas. The bottom line here, If you want strong bass, the subs need room to breath and adequate power to get you there. That ZX-1500.1 has the power. But one has to design/build a box that allows the woofers to work most effciently too. FYI: Did a recent install in a Ford F-150 Crew Cab and it used a single 10" ported wedge box. It was powered with a JL 500/1 amp. This 10 was amazingly clear, crisp and one it broke in, (About 2 weeks use) the low bass was stunningly hard to beat. YEAH, A SINGLE 10" SUB DID ALL THAT HOWIE!!! I'd have to look it up for you later though. They do make custom boxes for most trucks and extended cabs. Swez cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 16:04:26 Man what kind of 10 was it though? Damn that sounds good, I'm really intrested in car audio, so im thinking maybe when I get older and get out of college, i can start my own business and build systems. Right now im 18, and on my way to college to study business actually, so that can work out. Guys im really sorry, because i keep suggesting new methods of getting better sound, but my friend who works directly with manufacters, always tells me that he could get Diesel Audio dirt cheap, and im more of a brand kind of guy, but I don't know i mean he told me he could get me four 12s" and diesel's top of the line subs, each pushing 1500 watts max, and about 750 RMS each. The model of the subs are NSH-12, and you can see them here http://www.dieselaudio.com/subwoofers.html But like I figured you know i really don't need the back seat, so the seat is comming off. Another thing im thinking is making 2 boxes, well not me myself, but getting 2 single ported boxes and getting either 2 amps, or just 1, depending on the cost and other factors. what do you all think about this set up? please any help would be really appreciated. cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 16:10:09 well these subs are Dual 4ohm voice coils, so what im thinking about doing is getting 2 Rockford BD1000.1 Mono Blocks, which push 500 wrms at 4 ohms, 750 at 2 ohms, or 1,000WRMS at 1 ohm. So if i have 2 dual 4 ohm subs, i can get the load down to 1 ohm and push 500 watts per sub? would this be a good amp for this set up or would you all recommend another one. I found them on ebay for about 400 bucks each. thanks again victor and swez Victor on 08/12/2006 16:25:23 looks u guys are around.. care to catch up on a conference chat on yahoo or skype...??? cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 16:41:58 sounds good i have yahoo, whats ur email address so we can chat on yahoo messenger My email is cs2006_876@yahoo.com swez on 08/12/2006 19:46:00 Have heard of Diesel Audio and looked at the link too. It has a solid look to them and retail prices are in the $200.00/ea., range. However, the site has NO useful technical data or enclosure specs on this woofer. Who knows what it is really capable of??? May I suggest you listen to them in a well done install before you do anything on this brand. Swez cecilio87 on 08/12/2006 23:37:44 yeah im kind of skeptical on that too, augh its hard to find what u want, because there are lots of good possiblities. OK THIS IS MY FINAL Choice 2 MTX 9500s and they are going to be 12's each with its own mono block pushing about 1000 watts rms at 1 ohm. I will get the dual 2 ohm series, if not i guess dual 4 ohm and run it at 900 watts each sub Victor on 08/13/2006 02:16:15 dude... How many final choices do u make....????? hehehehe swez on 08/13/2006 08:16:34 Spot On thing you said there Victor as I have already decided to step out of this one until our friend makes some well defined choices. This one feels like a ping-pong match and I am getting dizzy with all the changes in paddles and players. Cec, This is a free site to use. However, we are not your parents and don't take kindly to "flipping" from one choice to another until Mom or Dad cave in and say yes. In the "REAL WORLD", this kind of behavior is "Stomped On" quickly by bosses, Profs and other authority figures. I am not being mean or nasty with ya here. Just trying to give a much needed "Heads Up" on how to conduct oneself in these situations. Take heed and learn this now as it will be a big part of life when you leave the nest. (Got all that?) THINK pal... THINK We see that you are trying to decide on a few good choices and that's all fine. PLEASE pick a plan and stick too it. All the brands noted will deliver big bump. Just stick to amps and subs that run at 2 ohms and all is well. FYI: Many amps claim to be 1 ohm stable on a test bench. However, the Techs that perform these tests, are very skilled and use their knowledge to generate specs that meet industry norms. But, when guys mis-use/abuse these amps as they often do, (Lack of understanding) this is where amps failures come into play. In short, don't even think about a 1 ohm amp as this is like giving a loaded 44 Magnum to a 4 year old. It's just not smart, in the wrong hands. Now Cec, pick a plan and then we'll talk. Until then, I sit this spinning dance out. Swez COFFEE Victor on 08/14/2006 01:18:13 I am sitting aside too... the other day u chat wit me on yahoo and decide on the JL w7, on one post u say u want the MTX, and on the other u say 2 solo's under the seat... dude if u here to do this, its kinda wasting urs and our time as well.. chalk out a serious plan and stop beating around the bush... in car audio, these products are equally competitive, the final result u get will depend on ur design and installation skills and otehr minute details, techniques and tricks.. in car audio installations is 90% and product is 10%.... please get back with a solidly sketched plan before u expect anymore replies from me . We are here to help... but u need to help us help u... Victor... cecilio87 on 08/14/2006 02:20:13 will do, so i am going to stand aside until i actually buy the products. Thanks again. swez on 08/14/2006 13:47:17 Run your buy list past us so if we spot any potential issues, we can catch them "before you buy"! We're not mad at you Cec... However, we are all very busy guys that donate time to help others. The best way to do so, is that we come up with a solid plan of attack and then pull everything together for a great outcome. FYI: This is a difficult skill to master. Meaning, making skilled, decisive choices and decisions. We are older and understand the value of priorities and time management skills. We don't expect a pre-25 year old to have these skills down and mastered yet. However, "bouncing about" and "spinning" through a variety of decisions to be made, should be done before coming to a BUY decision. That's what Google is for... reseaching products, making a BUY list and then run it by the Golds at CK. Thanks and hang in there, we'll get you through this one.
