I have had installed into my motor vehicle a dvd player, indash monitor and 2 x 7 inch monitors attched to head rests. All these units were purchased on Ebay. The Dvd player and indash monitor installed working fine through car speakers. The two monitors when their inbuilt speaker turned onor ear phones attached a hum is coming through them. but not through in car speakers, also fine black lines through one monitor when other unit turned on. I need help as the installer is saying that they are cheap monitors this is the reason,BUT the company in hong Kong has not had complaints about this problem. Help required. rodooo Replies (13) swez on 08/10/2006 22:16:42 Chances are good the grounds for the DVD player and monitors are not up to par. The grounds have to be to bare metal and preferably to the same general location is possible. This is 90% + of the problems you are noting. (Very common error by Pro Installers and layman alike. Since the monitors seem to have the main problem, it's likely they need a better ground than used by the installer. (However, DO NOT USE CAR WIRING HARNESS GROUNDS) There are too many other devices on this line and often provide poor grounds. It's probably the DVD player is not grounded well and this is causing the monitors and audio phones to show this problem. If you run a fresh ground from the DVD player, to the same ground on your HU, this should take care of this issue. Is this a DVD/CD and AM/FM unit? (All in One) If yes, this unit should be grounded to bare metal like the floor pan, firewall or a known good ground, inside the dash pocket. Comments? Swez rodooo on 08/11/2006 19:46:52 hav't attempted yet will advise on result rodooo ttocs on 08/11/2006 22:17:03 I just went to look at the car to see if it was one that I have worked on and am familiar with and I am gonna be no help there... Where are you at now? Do you know if the signal cables and power cables were ran together? It is common to get noise from this and it is always advised to run them on opposit sides of the vehicle. rodooo on 09/18/2006 20:34:58 I have retraced wiring back to dash. Found that the INSTALLER had connected to video 2 in line on each monitor a audio line from dvd unit .So I had 1 audio line connected to audio on screen, 1 audio connected to video 2 and video 1 to video line. redid wiring removed spare audio line reconnect and NOW the 2 head rest monitors are only playing back in black and white. The indash screen perfect with the headrest on or off. HUM still there. DOES any members have any idea re Black and white.(when installed original why audio to video. the units played in colour. MrBrownstone on 09/18/2006 21:04:41 When you add a piece of equipment to a previously 'quiet' installation it's either: 1. The new equipment (likely), or 2. The change in the installation Group loops, alternator whine, whatever you want to call it is almost always a very simple problem but like nailing jellow to a wall to solve. It appears that the pseudo-installer you hired didn't do a good job installing the equipment. I would take it back and inquire about the sloppy job. Or, go to a different (more reputable place) and inquire about the job. Either way, I have a feeling that the alt/whine will go away when you solve the whole DVD player issue. If not, we can further troubleshoot from there. PS Brands of equipment would be helpful here. rodooo on 09/18/2006 21:29:41 I have included these as units purchased from ebay. A bad rca can cause this, the only way to find it is to get into it with the power on and start wiggling the rca ends to see if it goes away. A light technical tap may also help........ swez on 09/19/2006 18:20:51 Quote: "A light technical tap may also help........" Is that a different remedy from the old TV repairman's... give it a sharp rap on the side of the casing with the the palm of a firm hand? Note that you have used a a video signal preamp here. I would think that alone would help supply adequate video signals to each head rest monitor. However, if the main DVD screen is playing well, but has engine noise, this will pass to each item off that chain too. Sorry, but we have a limited knowledge base on car video installation and trouble shooting here. There may be a few guys who have done some of this type of work here, but it's not the main focus of this forum. In general terms, if we paid another person to install the gear and it was not functioning properly when we had it installed, that's pretty much in the hands of the Installer and the shop owner to resolve. If the user tinkers w/o specific knowledge of what he/she is doing, this provides a loop hole for the installer/owner to say... "Hey, it was fine when it left the shop. Now I see someone else has been working on this and we are not responsible for thier work". Frankly, if it were me, I'd just put everything back the way I found it, take it back to the installer and "ask for his assistance" to cure the ailments. A good shop owner will always stand behind his peeps work. Good luck mate, swez PS Might want to do a google search for forums that cater specifically to AV mobile specialists. CK Golds do a good job with the audio parts of a system. However, we get few posts here about Video issues on this site. Especially ones as complex as your install happens to be.... rodooo on 09/19/2006 19:02:05 I have spoken to installer he was SHOCKED that he had placed the audio RCA's cables into video 2 of each screen. Regarding the hum. It only is apparent when the head rest monitors in built speakers are turned up. The indash is connected to the car sound system via DVD player no hum... Yes he to is an audio specialist and also here in the land down under there are not many specialist in the audio /visual installation field in fault finding.I do appreciate all comments thank you rodooo Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
