installing a Cd into sonoma

i have a 2000 sonoma, and i went to circuit city to get the mounting kit for the cd player (pioneer premier Deh-p410 i think). i brought it back to try to install it, but there is no way that the kit he gave me is going to work but it says that its for GM 88-02. the problem is that there is no where to mount the cd player to the kit. wiring is not a problem just getting the freaking thing to screw into the kit to make it stable. did he sell me the wrong kit or is GM difficult.
thanks for the help

Is it only stability that is the problem? If so, look at the back of your stock deck. See the bolt with the rubber cap on it? This slides into a mounting hole in the dash to stabilize the unit. Similar to a backstrap. You may need to fabricate something to attain the same effect on your new head unit.

If this is not the case, and something else is actually wrong with the kit, from what I've seen, there are different kits for the full size trucks and the S-10/Sonoma/Jimmy/S-Blazer.

Wal-Mart typically has Scosche kits, that are better/cheaper than the CC ones in my opinion. It may be worth your time to return it, and try Wal-Mart, or Napa, Checker/Shucks/Cragen, AutoZone, PepBoys, or the like.
