Problem with Kenwood receiver with Sirius receiver

I've got an older KDC-MP922 with the flip down screen. Came out a few years ago. I have the Sirius Satellite Radio receiver and I am a subscriber to Sirius. Over last night, I was driving around and I blew a fuse in my receiver. No big deal, it's been there for a few years. I replaced the fuse today, but when the receiver came back on it wont see my Sirius receiver. Any ideas? Is there something special I'm supposed to do? (I had the Sirius receiver installed by a shop so I'm not sure...)

Thanks,
Cliff

hmmmm this could be kinda tricky. first of all, fuses NEVER just blow at random. something caused it. if the power for the sirius receiver is tied in with the power for the head unit, which it more than likely is, and the sirius unit went bad, it could cause your fuse to blow. you could very well just have a bad sirius receiver.

locate the power input for the sirius receiver, if it's got one. test the power wires to see if you are getting 12 volts and a good ground. if you have both of them and the unit is still going undetected, then you've got a bad unit. if you don't have power, then that's your problem and you need to run power to it.

i guess my best advice would be to just take it to the shop that put it in and have them check it out. that way they can't blame you for messing with their install and voiding your install warranty.

Agreed, if the install shop did tap the HU power line and the Sirius receiver now has a problem, this could bee the root of the deal.

This blown fuse, where was it located? (HU fuse, Inline fuse, or fuse box?) It matters a lot as each fuse has a specific function and protects a given device or circuit(s). Say more please.

Also, does the Sirius receiver power up now or not?

OK here's the deal guys. It was an HU fuse. The Sirius receiver is powered from the HU. What probably blew it was the Sirius patch cable becoming severed. The wiring insulation was torn apart beneath my seat, and when I replaced the patch cable the Sirius receiver seemed to work. I started having a problem with my Antenna though and I'm going to end up buying a new receiver kit for it. (damn patch costs like 25, and the antenna like 50... i could get all three for a little under 90) The HU appears to work correctly. I put in another Receiver with another antenna and patch cable to my HU and it worked fine. (Guys at the stereo shop provided me with some equipment to swap out and troubleshoot with, even another Sirius ready Kenwood HU :) ). I guess the HU is fine. Thanks alot for the help!

My buddies did the same thing. he had tightened the 3rd brake light that we went through and grounded out the antenna. This cauased the fuse to blow as well as for the reception to stop....

Nice the shop let you use some of their tools and diagnostics equipment!

However, hooking up a powered wire near a mechanical device, (like a moving seat glide) sounds like a bad idea. Why? Can chafe the cable isulation, cut the wires and do what happened in this case... cut.short out the wires.

About the antenna cable, these should be pretty durable as is the the exterior antenna. The cable needs to be free of binding in the upper tail light access point. This may be helpful:
