The kenwood is a good amp. Are you planning on upgrading your system later on?

The reason I ask, is why are you choosing a stereo amp rather than a class D mono amp to power your sub.

no plan on upgrading my system so what amps should i get to push that alpines type r 12''? i have no clue of what amps should i uses. since u mention i need a class d instead of a class a/b.

You don't NEED a class D, it just seems more appropriate for the application you suggested.

How about this one?

yeah okay the alpine seems like a good one. how about about the sub what kind of encloser should i get to get the best sound. and what kind of amp kit?

emoboywyl on 07/24/2006 00:01:11
what kind of music do you listen to? Where are you going to be installing the sub?

mopperz on 07/24/2006 01:44:01
i mainly listen to hip hop. and the sub is going to be in the trunks. what amp wire would be good enough. is the kenwood KAC-7202
good enough for the sub

I'd use #8g wire probbly, although #4g will work well, but isn't neccesary.

I'd go with a nice sealed box, personally. Although you'll get a little more bump for your buck with a ported box.

The kenwood amp isn't really the most efficient way to power this amp. It isn't 2ohm stable, and since you're running dual 4ohm voice coils in your sub, there really isn't any great way to wire it for maximum effeciency.

If you're really liking the kenwood amps, I would suggest this one:

Which will net you about 850w rms if you wire your sub in parallel.

The Alpine MRP-M650 is a very good choice for the sub you mentioned. That is, if you have the 4+4 Dual Coil version. In a port tuned enclosure, this combo will definitely add a lot of low bump to your ride.

Another amp to consider, would be the Kenwood KAC-8152D. It also has a subsonic filter for ported enclosure applications. (550 watts RMS @ 2 ohms)

Either of these amps will definitely overpower any stock speaker system. If you ride has the Delco/Bose premium audio system in it, (internal amps) it might keep up with this much bass in the back.

Question: Do you know the model number on that Alpine Type R sub? If this is a 2+2 Dual Coil sub, (DVC) we'll have to look for some different amping solutions.

its a type r 1242 4 ohhmm 12'' dual voice coil. so the best bump for my money would be the alpine m650 or Kenwood KAC-9102D. how about hifonics they seem like good amps. any suggestion.

Have worked with a lot of guys that have been using Alpine gear and love it. I think the newer Kenwoods are coming on strong in performance, features and very good prices now.

HiFonics has some very nice products too. (Especially the older ones) Would like to get my hands on a few of their amps and test them out against other products I have worked with before. (JL, JBL, Infinity, DSL and a few others.

I agree with swez, the hifonics amps are decent products, but I can't really recommend them without hearing them first.

I've heard the alpine amps before and they really do sound great, and it's right around your price range. Same with the kenwood amps.
