I am not mechanically inclined, yet for some reason I decided to try to hard wire a stereo into my car. The radio is getting power and I have identified all of the speaker wires. The problem is the "new" radio (I got it for $50 at a pawn shop) has no place to attach the amp wire and I have no idea what to do with it. Once again, I barely speak technobabble, so if some one can help me, please dumb it down. Thank's Woody Replies (7) woodyrau on 07/20/2006 15:20:56 By the way, the car is a 2000 Ford ZX2 swez on 07/20/2006 15:31:03 What make and model # is that newer radio? I "think" you are saying this radio (HU = Head Unit) has no RCA's? There are 2 methods to connect speaker level (High signal) lines to most amps. Tell us what amp(s) [make & model #'s] you now have to work with and we'll walk you through a few options. Swez woodyrau on 07/20/2006 15:47:27 The radio is a kenwood kds3155. The problem I'm having involves the factory installed amp that came with the car. My last radio was stolen and the thief cut all the wires from the adapter. I have a wire that is labled "amp on" and I don't know what to to with it. woodyrau on 07/20/2006 15:49:00 That should read Kenwood kds315s UKinstaller on 07/20/2006 21:25:12 i've never seen a 2000 focus with premium sound. are you sure it has premium sound?? what kind of problem are you having?? if you are able to "pop" the speaker wires that you've identified, then you don't have a factory amp. if you did, the wires wouldn't pop because the factory amp isn't turned on. -UK woodyrau on 07/21/2006 17:09:57 the zx2 is an escort. i found the speakers by checking the resistence. they didn't pop. by the way, UK, your article got me as far as i got. thanks, Woody UKinstaller on 07/22/2006 00:37:01 ahhhh i forgot, the focus sometimes had a Blaupunkt factory radio. those had amplifiers. here's what ya do: strip back the ends of all of the remaining wires. make sure none of them touch each other and that all of the fuses are good. then, go through and touch the amp turn on wire off of your head unit, usually blue/white, up to each wire until you hear sound. just make sure you have the volume turned up and on a station of some sort so that you know when you have sound. you can also use the red (ignition) wire off your new radio. same principal. one thing: FUSE THE LINE. you can/will blow out your head unit if you touch the wire to ground or something like that without a fuse. fuse it at like 5 amps. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS!! -nick Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
