wiring harness help.

i've been having trouble with my setup, so i've gave in, and i'm getting a harness.

however, i want the car to look stock, so i'm putting the aftermarket head unit under the driver side seat, and not removing the factory head unit, it will only be unhooked.

i'll run the wires from the harness to the back of the aftermarket H.U. under the floor mat and under the dash, but will the lengths of these wire splices be too long? especially the ground?

i could always take the H.U. ground wire to a closer bolt on the chassis.

also, i noticed that on the back of my optima cd disk changer factory h.u. there are two connectors, I think the wiring harness only has one, do i only use the connector that fits the harness and forget about the other?

the car is an 05 mitsu. eclipse
any help please.

does it have the infinity system?? if so, on the newer eclipses, there is no wiring harness. you can tap into the din cable for a line level to your head unit, but it's a pain in the butt. only other option is to catch all the speakers at the factory amplifier and run them to wherever you are putting your head unit.

may i ask why you are even putting a deck in your car?? you can get great sound and still keep the factory HU. again, this is my personal opinion, but i think this is a bad idea. you aren't even going to be able to see your cd player to adjust the sound for different songs. also, with the HU on the ground, skipping might become an issue.

but, it's your car. do whatever makes you happy. however, if it were me, i would reconsider. with a few adapters, new speakers, and a couple amps, you can have an awesome sounding system while retaining the factory HU. just my two cents.

Agreed! Just did an install for a guy and we installed Infinity aftermarket speakers in doors and rear deck. After looking at the OEM stock speakers, it was obvious they were very lame and not up to par.

Just installing better speakers may be all you need here and keep the factory HU as is. The new speakers sounded much better than factory and when they were amped... a considerable improvement was noted.
