Okay I have 2 kicker L5 12s in the regular sealed box. And I was trying to find out whether I should get a bigger sealed box or get a ported box because I know I need another box, the one they're in now is keeping them from sounding louder. If I can get some help with this I would be deeply thankful!!! However, if the trunk is not properly prepped with sound deadener, the only volume difference you will hear is a louder rattle outside the vehicle. Dkutt25 on 07/13/2006 20:29:22 Okay fasho...thanks swez on 07/14/2006 09:47:25 Minor correction here... same power from amp(s), but using a ported box, you can anticipate at least a +3dB bump in bass performance at the port tuning frequency range. This is like using a 600 watt amp, to performance we get at 1200 watt amp(s) for your sub(s). The larger the box, the deeper the bass will be, but we lose a bit of power handling characteristics of the sub(s), in the process. Kicker has several recommended enclosure designs you can use. However, for the L5/L7 subs, these high SPL box designs are very large and heavy too. Here are the box details and recommendations for you specific sub needs: http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-support/manuals/manuals/2006/2006%20L5%20Sub%20c01%20WEB.pdf Page 3 gives ported box ranges that can be used with this L5 sub. Compact Ported = 1.75 cf min. (+ port displacement) Bass SPL Ported = 3.25 cf max. (+ port displacement) This does not include the port displacement volume needed. So, the box will actually be larger than noted above, depending on port(s) used. Got all that? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
