I have an aftermarket H.U. I'm unsure where to put my 12v constant (yellow), and 12v ignition wire (red) ? I DO have a switch, if needed. I do not have a wiring harness. I do not want to mess with the factory head unit. Is there a safe way to wire these somewhere in the car? fusebox.. car battery.. etc. Thankyou for any help here please Replies (4) UKinstaller on 07/10/2006 22:28:08 you can go straight to the battery, or the ignition harness. i never tap into fuse boxes, but that's just me. get a meter and test for whichever wire at the harness is hot with the car off. it will be much larger than most other wires in the area. i would just go to the battery to be safe, just make sure wherever you go to fuse the wire with a 10 amp fuse. -UK DominicanKiddo on 07/10/2006 22:40:14 The best way to do this is by getting the wiring diagram for your vehicle and use the factory wiring. Don't cut the entire factory plug, just take some skin of the wires you found in the diagram to be the 12V constant and the ignition one and match them with the HU you are putting in, if your HU doesn't have a fuse get one from walmart or somehing like that, for 12V const. It' s always good to solder if you do this. If you later on have to remove the HU because you returning your leased car, just cut whatever you did and put tape on it. Get your diagram here http://www.directwholesale.net/diagrams/diagrams.asp?link=BULLDOG J/K about the lease. krimkrim on 07/11/2006 00:01:07 Okay, i've read all the advice, i've decided to take the 12v constant to the car battery, and fuse it, as close to the battery positive post as possible. I'll be using a 16g wire for this, if its hooked to the battery, being a thin wire, would it run the risk of melting? what kind of fuse box should i use for a small ATC fuse? i'll use a 10 as suggested. i'm going to use a cig. lighter hookup for the 12v ignition, i think something like this will work: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=265-562 btw, i read somewhere that if the wire is touching the chassis on the fused side, (possibly through the firewall without a gromett) its possible that the fuse could fail to protect the safe side of the wire??? would wire loom help prevent this? thanks alot! ttocs on 07/11/2006 09:45:27 you could try the cig lighter........
