Hey guys hows it going? I know you are all probably sick of reading A compared to B posts. However, you guys know your stuff and I trust your opinions. I have a JL e1400D amp running a 12" Alpine Type R (300wrms version). I came across what I think is a good deal on an Orion HP10D4 http://www.orioncaraudio.com/subwoofers/sub_p_series.asp and I wanted how you guys think this would perform as a SQL sub with more emphasis on the SQ side of things. My amp is 500wrms as is this sub and it looks like it performs well in a small sealed enclosure (which I like). There is a lot of stats and numbers on this link I provided that look like greek to me lol. I know Orion was pretty top of the line in past but I was wondering how they stack up these days. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jay Replies (1) swez on 07/9/2006 11:38:03 Orion makes some very good SPL/SQL subs. This one mentioned, is designed for very compact enclosures. One thing I did note, this is probably more for SPL applications as it has a very low efficiency rating. (83.5 dB of SPL @ 1w/1m) That means a very strong and heavy motor system here and needs a strong amp to get the most from it too. Also, I note the Fs (Free Air Resonance) is a bit high for an SQ sub. Many SQ/SQL subs are more efficient and have lower Fs numbers too. Have a look at the Alpine SWR-1042D. It's probably cheaper, a lower Fs, good in compact boxes and efficiency is about the same.
