Box idea to utilize my 8 and 10 mismatched subs

Hi,
I was driving around today and i had this idea come to my brain. Build a box that is square and about the length of my back seat or so. it will be long and rectangular like a coffin. Then in the one end pointing out towards the door mount my 8" rockford sub, then on the other end facing straight at the 8" subs magnet place my 10" mtx road thunder sub.

Will this work to make a loud base coffin canon? Maybe i should reverse the sub or something like that but i like the look of the backside of the ten inch its red and it looks cool so thats why i wanted to do this.

Also it will look really cool because i am going to bevel the the edges and make it small on the 8" end and big on the ten inch end, like a pyramid.... a crazy pyramid coffin cannon

And I thought I had creativity! I must be smokin the wrong stuff!

Yeah... pass me some of that stuff too! LOL

If anything, that 8" RF would make a decent MONO midbass driver. It would need an enclosure and amplifer with a bandpass crossover network.

You already have a nice sub installed right? No need to muck up the waters with additional woofers as bass cancellations could become a problem.

well i think i am going to hold off for a while on coffin cannon and play with some more mainstream ideas.

I mounted my other ten inch woofer in a ported box that was designed for a 8" sub originally but with some mods i think it will work good. Now i am going to mount it high up in my vehicle to finish my enclosure properly so that noone can steal the gear as it will be bolted to the floor and to the roof. even if i dont power this sub it provides security. But i will see if i cant get more air flowing and really make bass.

Air flow is part of the equatiion. So is box volume (Vb) and Port Tuning Frequency. (PTF) Get it wrong and good by ol sub.

Also, some subs do not have the suspension systems to handle a ported design well. They may sond good at low power. But as you dial up the RMS levels.... "poop goes the woofer".

Maybe i should rethink this and actually read my manual for the roadthunder rt1004. I know there is ported box design in it but i recall the box is quite large so i figured if i put this woofer in a smaller box that it will have more air resistance and wont wreck anything.

The Road Thunder RT series have a fairly high Qts. With this type parameter they are more suited for SPL sealed enclosures or lower Q free air (infinite baffle). Though they are capable of ported and bandpass as well, the high Qts is going to involve a pretty large enclosure when using them.

I would suggest getting what you can out of them on ebay or from some buddies looking for something and utilizing the funds for the proper equipment for your tastes.

Just remember when going sealed, you will want a Qtc of around .7 no matter what woofer (SQ wise). The difference will be in the F3 it produces at that Q. Smaller cars work better with higher F3's and vice versa. As for ported look for subs with a Qts of .4 and under for they will have better performance with less airspace demands.

Ash, WinISD is a pretty good program for modeling speakers to enclosures in a large, open air room. However, they have been known to have errors in the software at times. (Especially the newer Beta version)

Also, transfer functions are not accounted for in the plots generated by this program. For HT, our transfer function peaks can be minimal. (+6 -9dB) But in some vehicles, we can see +12 - 16dB spikes near the vehicle's resonating point.

PS The PE datum is free air. WinISD is enclosure, in a large room. That may be where the discrepancies are coming from???

Whoops! Now I know where my post went! (LOL!) Man I'm must be losing my mind. This whole weekend is going bad.
