Can you guys name off sum stores that would carry 1 inch MDF? Hopefully some of these stores will be in my area. I already know that Menards and Home Depot only carry 3/4" MDF. Thanks guys. Replies (5) Relax_The_Mind on 08/5/2003 05:43:52 Need it for a box right? Most places around here only carry up to ¾" MDF. If im not mistaken I actually think the both Lowes™ and here carried 1" MDF and local lumber yards (I could have sworn the Home Depot™ around here carried it). Taylors™ sells it too but its in panels which might be good unless you plan on using bigger sizes. Its also in shelving and cabinet sections of hardware stores too. A buddy of mine who also fabricates extreme custom boxes uses Bondo or some other similar liquid type of glue that is thin enough to seep into the wood to make it hard as a rock or you can wood glue (brushed) and vise grip two ½" sheets (simpler than it seems) and you can use it just like a 1" MDF. Dont know if that kinda answered your question at all. RTM Swez on 08/5/2003 07:55:32 It may be harder to find 1" MDF in most large Home Centers... but a lumber yard will have or order it for you. The problems is... the price per sheet could be pretty steep as most smaller lumber yards do not do the volume of purchasing this type of product. Do you really need 1" MDF? This stuff is real heavy and I have used it a few times on a few Pro installs with my brother's business. It's tough to handle as the weight is notable over 3/4". Swez PS We often use 1" or a pair of 3/4" laminated together for baffle panels to hold massive and heavy 15's & 18's. But the rest of the box is 3/4" MDF and braced well to prevent panel resonants. ttocs on 08/5/2003 13:39:42 1" would be overkill in almost all applitcations... Unless you have a W7 or something.. I always hated working with it as it does seem to weigh twice the weight of the 3/4".... ryan on 08/5/2003 13:47:50 Well im getting the 12" brahma and i want my box to be sturdy and i dont want to worry about the box flexing or vibrate. Tray on 08/5/2003 15:56:55 Sutherlands carried it when I was in college. We don't have one around here, so don't know if they still do or not. I believe however, like the others have stated, that if you brace a 3/4 box well, you should not have any problems. I've heard those Brahma's are beasts, but a well thought out plan should account for them just fine. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
