I have a 03 Civic Si Coupe and want to install an amp and sub off my stock deck. Is this hard? Can anyone give me a brief description how this can be done? I have installed systems before but never off a stock deck. Replies (4) ryan2 on 06/10/2006 12:17:58 Hi there and welcome to the site. You will need to buy a Line Out Converter (LOC). This will cost you around $15 I believe. When you get one it will look like a small square box with 4 wires for the speaker, a ground wire, and an input for RCA cables. The 4 wires are spliced into your rear speakers. So + to + and - to - on the left rear speaker then do the same for the right rear speaker. Now hook the ground wire to bare metal somewhere in the trunk. (I believe you can get away with out using the ground, but let someone else clear that up for me). Now hook the RCA cables from your amp to your LOC and your done. Some problems that you may notice from using an LOC are: Noise issues and not the best SQ you could get if using an aftermarket HU. swez on 06/10/2006 21:07:55 That's one method avilable, but if your amp has a high signal input section, you can also tap signals off the rear speakers via a Molex connector that often comes with most amps. What make and model amp and sub are you planning to use? Swez frank03civicsi on 06/11/2006 10:38:17 The amps I am using are some older Jenson 250w amps. They have a high signal input. Is this way better then the way that was suggested above? swez on 06/11/2006 12:11:53 If you only wish to add a sub and amps for same, the high signal interface is easy and nets good results. However, if you wish to use the Factory HU and power mids/high and subs, then the LOC method is best. Depending on the extent of your project, there are other product options out there, that can give even more flexibility and stage/imaging, EQ and AUX inputs as well as RCA connections to all amps employed. Say more about your entire project, so we can get a better handle on how to help you reach your project goals. Basically, what do you want the end results to be?
