Wow it felt like it was only yesterday I was in this same website asking for advise. About 3yrs ago I was here asking this same question. After a couple of responses I save up some money and got me the best ssytem I have ever owned. Panasonic cq-dfx983u head Unit JBL 600.1 amp (Swez recomended) (2) 1220 Infinity reference Subwoofers (Swez Reccomended) All intereor speakers infinity A perfectly build box found by a garbage dumpster and a 4 gauge wiring kit from www.knukonceptz.com for a great price. (Swez Recommended) I owend it till last year 5 days before my wedding, 3 days before thanksgiving when it was all taken away by someone who is lucky I don't know who he or she is. All I was left that morning was with my interior speakers and my wiring kit alarm disconnected and a broken window. I would like to build the same system but it has been 3 yrs and I don't know if it's a smart idea to search for the same or build something new for around the same price i spent 3yrs ago. I am looking for advise in subwoofers, amps and HU. remember i still got all the interior speakers and a good 4 gauge wiring kit. Looking foward to hear new ideas. Can't wait to get started. Thanks again Clubknowledge you guys really stood out before I know this time it can be 10 times better. Replies (9) Victor on 06/7/2006 19:04:12 Whats your budget?? PAPI0513 on 06/7/2006 19:27:36 ill take any info price is not an issue right now. i only spent about $600 in the things i got stolen maybe $500 i got some good deals. I have also a bandpass box as well for 12's. swez on 06/7/2006 21:47:06 Sorry to hear you lost all that nice gear. Even the alarm did not stop these guys eh? That reall sucks!!! Yes, we can help you rebuild again. Hard to fine the JBL 600.1 anymore. They are like hen's teeth... just not many out there anymore. What do you have left after the breakin? Speakers, HU, power wires??? What speakers are in there now? For SQ installs, sell the BP box and use sealed or ported this time. OK what items would you like this go round? Be specific as possible. Swez PS Yes, I remember you... it's been a while huh? Welcome back as we have some new techs on the board now. A few oldtimers too... like ttoks, Mr. Brownshorts and me. Victor on 06/8/2006 06:46:21 the newer JBL GTO-600.1 II are equally good amps, definitely SQ goes with Sealed Enclosures.. Give us more details on what u have and what u gotta buy, so that we cud help u better.. Victor.. Ash on 06/8/2006 17:34:45 Actually the old JBL 600.1 is being sold quite consistently on ebay if you have the patience. Without a included subsonic filter or any other sub related extras (just boost), it's not as versatile as other viable products on the market nowadays. Still excellent for a simple sealed install though. If you do plan to take the ported route, best be on the lookout for one with at least a decent SSF. PAPI0513 on 06/17/2006 16:49:46 Here is what I got left after the breakin: 4 Gauge wiring set not damage - all the wires all interior speakers Infinity (6" in front 6x9 in back) that's all, I got a HU in there but I plan to swap it out once I start rebuilding it's an old kenwood. I sure miss my Panasonic cq-dfx983u wich by the way cannot find anymore i tried. I was using sealed, the only reason why I got a bandpass is because I had it before this nice setup I used to have. I want something like the last setup it was in the budget and at the same time it sounded great. I am looking at some HU's but do not know on what brand but definetly looking into something that plays mp3/wma and has 5v out as well as atleast one channel input. that's why I picked my last HU, i also picked it cause of the nice screens. The amp I leave to you guys as well as the subs and box. I tried searching for some infinity's again but I purchase mine in www.justwoofers.com back then and they don't sell that brand anymore I got a sweet deal 2 for $100. I definetly want to stick with sealed. It's been a while since I purchase anything for my ride therefor allot of things have changed. I have no clue in what's out there anymore that's why I am here asking for your help. If you guys need anymore info please feel free to ask me. once I got a HU in mind I'll let you know more but for now I can take some opinions in HU's as well. Thanks again guys swez on 06/18/2006 01:08:16 Do you want to stick with dual 12's, dual 12's or maybe go with a strong 12" ported/sealed? Frankly, a solid 10" or 12" sub will do a fine job. I would definitely consider the Alpine SWR 12xxD series sub as a solo and you can go ported or sealed in a compact box. They come in 2+2 or 4+4 DVC's and handle 500 watts RMS. Very good SQL sub here. For under $125.00 shipped, a very nice option!!! Strong bass here. Along with this, consider a 4 channel amp to power your full range speakers and a dedicated Class D sub amp. That depends on your budget and how much clean audio power your speakers can take. The minimal approach that will drop right in could look like this: 1. A strong 4 channel amp (75-100 Wrms x 4) that powers the front speakers off the front channels and the rear channels can be bridged, to power your sub. The rear speakers can be run off the HU amps for rear fill. A good low budget option now and can add on later, if you want stronger sub performance. 2. A modest 4 channel (50 watts RMS x 4) for front and rear speakers and a dedicated sub amp to power your sub(s) [300-500 RMS] Tell me, what are the make and model #'s of the speakers you have left? (Front, rear and sub) What features are a "must have" on your next HU? Many newer HU's have gone to lower RCA output voltages. (2.0 - 4.0 volts) Most amps will handle that just fine. MP3/WMA players are common and if you want an AUX input, not a problem here either. However, if you want advanced EQ, fancy display images and other toys, state what you like. Avoid motorized face plates and complex mechanical CD handlers. They are not reliable in the long run. Why pay more for such things? For simplicity and security, a removable faceplate version is a good option. Why steal a HU chassis w/o the control panel??? Comments/inputs? Swez PAPI0513 on 06/20/2006 18:29:13 Well I must say that after looking at the sub you chose I may be more deciding on the single setup. I got married recently and soon I will start a family so I am going to need the extra space in the trunk. I think I will go with the single Alpine SWR 12xxD it seems powerful and definetly in my budget. I will try to see if I can actually sample it somewhere before I purchase it. You do have to explain the 2+2 and 4+4 dvc deal I am new to that or you can request a site where i can learn more. I like what you choose in option one but my question is would 200Wrms be enough juice for that sub? I think number 2 would be more ideal. Any amps you recommend for that sub? The speakers I got running inside are Pioneers I thought I had Infinity's but I forgot I sold those...this is what I got front Pioneer TS-A1680R Back Pioneer TS-A6965 In the HU department I was happy with my previous HU. I don't like motorized face plates or none of that. This is what I am looking for: something with dot matrix display like my previous HU, inputs, 4.0volts outputs, and ofcourse the mp3/wma feature. Thanks again you guys are always in the right track I can almost smell and picture my new setup thanks again swez swez on 06/20/2006 19:33:31 If you want to consider a 4 channel amp, here's just one of many options: A little careful shopping here, should bring that price down considerable. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3UqOzVP7Pos/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&id=essential_info&i=113KACX542#Tab The front channels can be used to drive both front and rear speakers and you'll get about 60 RMS to each speaker. You won't have fade control here per-se, but one can easily tone down the rear speakers a few dB with load resistors. If you bridge the rear channels, this amp delivers almost 250 RMS to a 4 ohm sub. The more efficient the sub used, the more clean SPL you can get from a single sub. These channels can be fed by either a HU sub out RCA or rear channel RCA's and you'll have fade control to adjust bass from front speakers. Can even go with a single Infinity 1250w here. (Have seen Infinity 4 ohm SVC's for under $75.00 on line) I looked up the specs on your Pioneer speakers. They should do the job for now. However, a nice set of 2-way Component speakers in front, should really improve the front stage sound. The present 4-ways you have in there now, (TS-A1680R) really compromise your performance as they use cheap speaker elements and crossovers The rear speakers should be adequate for now. As for HU's, jump over to Crutchfield and scope out 2-3 HU's with features and looks you like. We can review them and sort out what makes sense for your application. Do a "What fits my car" search. A 1 din HU will fit and in most cases, leave room for other options in the dash, (like an outboard EQ) if you so desire. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
