today i just bought ~700 worth of neons, speakers, a cd player, the only problem i'm havin is i plug the cd player into the blazer, i still have all the crimped wires and all hangin out just in case i need to change something, but after about a min the heatsink on the back of the cd player starts gettin warm, then after a while extremely hot my battery connector is loose for some reason, which i went up to mess with, came back a few minutes later and the cd player which i left on but not playin wasnt warm, so it's only gettin warm while outputting to the speakers the cd player is a sony mp 70 i think, and the speakers are all pioneer, 2 4-ohm 6 x 9, 2 4-ohm 4x6, the cd player is only puttin out 52 watts per channel so i'm guessin either i have something wired wrong, or it's just gettin hot from being able to power the speakers more, the volumes is set real low, below halfway and the speakers are quite loud... anyone ever heard or seen something like this? i'd really like ot not burn up my cd player lol, thnx Replies (6) baine on 08/4/2003 21:53:40 ok for one thing the deck dose not put out 52 per channel more like 25 rms 52 peak. Did you use a wiring harness adapter for your blazer?? also you might check to see if you wired the speakers right as chevy wireing is not easy to figure out +- . There should not be any reason that the deck will get to hot. Check your ground and your acc wire and power . I do not think the speaker wire will make your deck heat up as it will run the speakers either way. I think it is harder on the speakers than the deck if they are backwards. baine on 08/4/2003 22:03:13 ohh make sure that you are not using the dimmer or the power antanna wire for something . The dimmer would be on a wiring harness you bought for the chevy and I do not think the mp70 uses a dimmer (not sure ) tape that wire as it could cause a short if it is hooked up and grounds out. Make sure that any wires you do not use on the deck are cut so no wires are showing and taped so they cant ground out. Thats all I can think of Tray on 08/5/2003 17:10:53 Did you run new speaker wire to the speakers? If not, I'd suggest looking into this. I don't know about in 87, but I know a lot of GM vehicles make use of what is called a "common ground" system. Depending on how things are hooked up, this may be causing part of the problem. Are balance/fader working properly? If not, you may have some wiring troubleshooting to do. As for the power, baine was pretty close, it is actually rated at 23 watts RMS, so should push those speakers fine as long as it's wired properly. ttocs on 08/5/2003 17:59:15 that vehicle should not have a common ground system, and if it did you would have horrible sound.. What speakers are hooked up to it? I have seen decks that get hot enough that I did not want to touch them. The sony should have a thermal protection. It would shut the deck off and flash some kind of warning if it needed to protect itself. There probably is nothing to worry about, but it is a good question. Tray on 08/5/2003 18:11:03 Ahh, good point. I've never actually run a deck while it was out of the dash, but have some times felt quite a bit of heat radiating from them when ejecting/inserting CDs, etc... accusedmonk on 08/5/2003 20:43:08 k thnx, i did cut off the dimmer to it, didnt get as hot i dont think, the fader, balance and sub balances work fine, i havent replaced any of the wiring in it, one reason being it's too much trouble lol, took me a whole day just to put in the deck... the kit i bought for my blazer didnt come with anything to stabilize the deck to the kit and keep it from falling out, so i used some wire and ghetto rigged it to keep the deck secured to the kit... yeah ur right baine about the power to speakers, i was sayin it might be more coming out because most amps i've seen are rated at 8 ohms, so i figured that at 8 ohms it puts out 52 max, but it's 4 the speakers i bought were 4 pioneer speakers, 2 4x6 20 rms-100 max dash speakers, and 2 6x9 40rms-220 max, i do wish the rms was better... it's actually kinda good runnin it outta the dash in case u mess something up, this was my first install so it helped thnx again Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
