Amp/Sub Problem

Running an Audiobah AW100Q, 400W at 4ohm from a MTX 282 amp. I am getting almost no sound out of the sub and I am wondering if it is a amp problem or a sub problem. I have made sure the ground is solid.

I would like to check to see if the amp is putting out the correct power. What power should it be putting out and how do I check this?

That amp can be dridged to 1 cahannel and a 4 ohm load. The RMS power rating should be about 200 watts RMS @ 4 ohms.

Specs:

RMS Power 12.5 VDC ***
2 Ohm Load 90 w x 2
4 Ohm Load 45 w x 2
Bridged 4 Ohm Load 180 w

*** The RMS power output will be higher than 180 if the amp gets a typical 13.5 volts off the electricals.

1. Need a volt meter to measure the DC voltage at amp power lugs

2. Measure AC output voltage to sub (target is 28-30 VAC at full power

What method did you choose when getting audio signals to the amp input side? (Line level RCA's or Speaker level inputs?)

Have you tried ajdusting the amp gain control to obtain maximum clean power out of amp to sub?

Thanks for the advice. I have RCA's running to the amp from the HU. I've tried adjusting the gain, not much of a difference. No matter how I change the settings, I still get almost no noise out of the sub. The sub does move, which I have to touch to determine.

Measure the sub ohmic value. You should get about 3.4-3.6 ohms reading, when measuring with wires disconnected from amp.

Without a meter, we are flying one eye blind and cannot see out of the other one.

Do you have a Walkman for some other device that can be used as a signal source for testing? All you need is a headphone output jack and RCA pigtails. This will tell us if the amp/sub is working properly or not.
