Hi,

I would like to start with what I have and what I am planning to buy.

Currenly the only thing I have is the Pioneer DEH-P480MP CD,MP3&WMA Player.

What I'm planning to buy are:-

Bass:
- Boss CH3000D Amp.
-1200wrms @ 4ohms
- 2x Pioneer Premier 12" 400wrms (Double Coil 4ohms per coil)

Mids:
- Boss CH2000 Amp
- 200wrms x4 @4ohms
- 2x Alpha 6a 100wrms 8ohms

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have not decided which set of tweeters I would use.

I need to find out what kind of car electrical power I need?

Both the amps and the head unit has builtin crossovers do I really need to buy a seperate crossover unit?

Yes I know that the subs are overpowered, can I reduce the gain on the amp ?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went with Boss because of the prices.

Thank You For your help in Advance.

I am open to any suggestion.

save a little bit more money, and just stay away from boss. you will be happy with your decision in the end i garuntee it. they have very low quality products, there is a reason they are so cheap.

I just bought a JBL 1200.1 for a friend (true 1200 watts RMS@2 ohm or 1 ohm) for 220 shipped on ebay and im sure if you took the time to look around you could probably find one for a pretty decent price as well.

you would have to run the 1200.1 at 1 ohm for 1200 watts or at 4 ohm for 600 watts.

just stay away from boss pleaseeeee :)

take your time when you are putting together your system.

buy quality products the first time so you dont have to replace them in the future :)

let us know what kind of price range you are working with so we can make some better suggestions for you.

thanks

I am looking to stay at around $1350USD for the audio system.

Thanks Blitz.

Victor on 06/1/2006 08:29:15
That is a very good and potent budget to get an excellent sounding system...

lots can be done with it.. depends what u are looking for in your system...

b_bass59 on 06/1/2006 08:57:20
I live in Trinidad, and $1350USD is around $8000TTD and for example the BOSS 3000D AMP is $2000TTD, the budget may look good to you guys, but down in Trinidad it is not enought.

But I am currently looking for alternatives for the Boss amps.

any ideas.

I want to run a 1500wrms system.

With the speakers mention in the first post.

b_bass59 on 06/1/2006 09:09:26
With the Headunit I have with a builtin crossover, do you think I need it?

swez on 06/1/2006 09:28:16
No crossovers needed in HU is the amps have filters already.

AVOID BOSS AUDIO!!!

What other brands are available in your area?

Do you think if I go with less Speakers maybe.

2x Alpha 6a and 2x tweeters for mids (350wrms)
and
1x Premier 12" (400wrms)

With a Rockford 4 x 200wrms amp

Victor on 06/1/2006 10:38:42
Ya.. what other brands are available in your area...??

Also running a actual 1500wrms system is no joke, you will have to spend another fortune to upgrade your car's electrical supply system, the alternator, Big 3 and battery..

The 1500wrms BOSS boasts of, is just boasting...

350wrms mids...??? dude i would call them awesome if any un-expensively priced mids can take that kinda power.. i would call them woofers tho..GRIN

Please give us a list of brands available in your area, and we will be able to help you out better..

Keep away from these

I just found out about Power Acoustik

The GOTHIC Series OV2-820 for mids (820w Max Bridged) and
The Class D A1800DB monoblock for the Bass (1100wrms @ 2ohms)

http://www.poweracoustik.com

What do you think guys

Victor on 06/1/2006 11:44:29
I would suggest you go for a simple and more effective setup

here is what you should be looking at

A decent 4 ch amp, 50 - 75wrms x 4, a pair of component speakers upfront with the powerrating in the range of 50-75wrms, and coaxials with similar rating for the rear.

for the sub amp, a Solid 500wrms @ 2 ohms amp of a reputed manufacturer combined with a single 12" 4ohm DVC rated at 400-600wrms in a tuned ported enclosure .

This setup can easily play much better, cleaner, and louder then the kind of setup you are looking at..

please read this in detail before you decide anything.. or even go window shopping..( please read it carefully without the "know it all attitude" )

hope it helps..

Concerning Boss, and other junk brands.....Keep in mind, there are 3 types of manufacturers:

1. Ones whose products exceed their ratings
2. Ones that meet their ratings
3. Ones that do not meet their ratings.

If you were looking for an amplifier that would give you the most power for your money, you should consider brands with a good reputation, as they'll always deliver what they promise. Brands in the #2 category are the best to buy for that purpose.

Brands in the #1 category...exceed ratings...usually do so for competition purposes. Some brands, like Phoenix Gold, exceed their ratings by ~10% just to assure customers that in the worst of conditions, they always get what they pay for. Companies like MMATS underrate their products because they fully intend car audio competitors to beat the hell out of their equipment. In fact, if you aren't competing, most of the XXX equipment is overpriced and unnecessary.

Brands like Audiobahn & MA Audio...barely meet their ratings...or fall 10-15% short. The reason is that nooone notices the difference between 200W & 172 watts anyway, and few consumers would ever try to verify their products output.

In the case of Boss and the 15 other brands mentioned, 12 of them are owned by the same 3 companies. Most of them are the same amplifiers packaged under 3 or 4 different names, but are the same overrated junk.

They know that someone spending $140 on an amplifier won't likely know what they are buying, and by the time they wise up, they can't return it for a legitimate product. One hint, though, if you read the owner's manual, they usually show the ACTUAL power ratings...which are always 1/4 what they put on the outside of the amplifier case.

A 1000W amp by Boss is the equivalent of a 500W amp by

Memphis *XXX
Alpine *
Crossfire *XXX
MMATS XXX
MTX *
DEI *XXX
Earthquake XXX
Eclipse
Infinity *
JBL*
Rockford *
Phoenix Gold *
Kicker
Precision Power
Orion
Zapco XXX

(although Boss doesn't make anything that can do what these brands can step up to)

When looking at brands to choose for value, I put a * by them as they provide the best bang for the buck. For overall MAXIMUM performance (amps that can take the abuse), you'll see an XXX by them. Some cover both ends of the spectrum depending upon how much you want to spend.

Consider those brands.

Does Kedin and Almani make good amps.

A electronic store recommended any one of these two amps which are 4ch 800rms amps.
For 1 12" Premier 400wrms
and 2 Alpha 6a at 100rms per unit

Thanks in advance you guyes for all your advice and time.

ttocs on 06/1/2006 19:20:34
never heard of either of those. A good rule of thumb is to stay away from anything with its max power written in big letters on the top.

I Think I'll go with a Rockford 800.4 amp and use it in tri mode for the full system. I think that will also keep down the price, of the overall cost.

A Car audio installer told me that the Premiers 12" Subs can't really take 400rms real power into their coils. to use 2 channels on the rockford amp to power the two premiers.

what do you guys think.

Thanks

swez on 06/3/2006 14:12:49
The RF P8004 manual does not give details on "Tri-Mode" use.

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/fattach_get.php?p_sid=VYh7989i&p_tbl=9&p_id=454&p_created=1116542316

It probably can be done, but I don't know what the proper woofer impedence should be here. (4 or 8 ohms) Can you confirm that info with your local RF dealer?

If they say yes to Tri-mode, then a passive low pass filter will be needed to block the highs above 80-100 Hz. A 12dB (Coil and Cap) will do the job here. However, to determine the correct values of each, we need to know the proper ohmic load of the woofers.

However, you can bridge the rear channels to MONO and use a 4 ohm sub and the LPF and REM bass module to control power to your sub(s). This leaves you with +400 watts RMS power for the sub.

Have you purchased any speakers at this time? If not, consider the Infinity Kappa Components. If available, these run strong at 2 ohms per channel. Otherwise, do you have specs on the Alpha speakers noted earlier?

b_bass59 on 06/3/2006 16:21:44
These are the speakers I ordered

2 Pioneer Premier 12" Double coil 400wrms (2ohm per Coil)

4 Alpha6a are 100rms, 8ohms. (google "Alpha 6a speakers")

Still looking for a good set of tweeters for the system thought.

thanks

swez on 06/3/2006 19:39:43
Ahhhh, these are Eminence 8 ohm mids. That means you can expect 50 watts RMS/speaker off the front channels of your P8004.

Man, any way I slice this one, it comes up short. This tweeter looks like a viable option:

These will work:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=270-013

Now, you need a high pass filter network to couple them to your woofers. This will do, with a slight modification:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=260-144

You need resistors to match those tweeters to the crossovers. Get 4 of these:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=004-8

What you'll need to do, is wire 2 resistors in parallel from the tweeter + output lug, in series with the + lead on each tweeter. This gives you an 8 ohm net load to the crossover and tweeter will be matched crossed at 3,000 Hz.

This will work... but the woofer choice (Alpha 6a's have really hung you) in a less than optimal way. If you had choosen a pair of 2 or 4 ohm woofers, much more power would be available from the P8004 to power them. However, the sensitivity rating of these 6's may save the day.

Now, since you are out of the USA, it may be difficult to find the correct crossovers and tweeters needed. If you have any friends in the USA, have them buy these parts and send them to you.

How i worked out the ohms are
The amp power rating in 200wrms @ 2ohms per ch

The Eminence are 8ohms, Tweeters are 4ohms

If I take the two eminence and put then in a parallel together with a tweeter I will get 2ohms (I Think correct me if I'm wrong") and it will shares 66.67wrms to each unit.

Remember that I have 4 Alpha6a Eminence.

Do you think that this is a good match with the two 12" Pioneer Premier (TS-W126C/DVC,Double Voice Coil @ 4ohm per Coil) in a ported enclosure tunned at 30Hz. (400wrms to share between the two Subs)

I know I will be running underpowered.

Thanks

Regards

swez on 06/5/2006 11:15:35
If you wire a pair of Alpha 6a's in parallel, you'll get 4 ohms. Adding 4 ohm tweeters will not drop the nominal impedence to 2 ohms.

Why? The crossovers are impedence matching and the amp will see a nominal 4 ohm load.

What I would do... is run a pair of 6a's per channel. (net 4 ohms) Then, add crossovers and tweeters to power only the front Comp speakers. The 2nd pair of 6a's, use in rear as Midbass/MidRange only.

Then, use the remaining 2 channels to power your Pioneer subs. You can run 1 sub per channel @ 2 ohms or bridge the rear channels and wire the subs for a net 4 ohms. (Series/parallel)

Got all that?
Swez

b_bass59 on 06/5/2006 11:28:12
This gives us 50watts per unit. Ok

In your point of view will this system sound good, will the bass and highs match.

Thanks

swez on 06/5/2006 15:53:46
Yes, these 6a's are very efficient. Most mids are only 88-92 dB SPL @ 1 watt/1meter. These are 97dB @ 1 watt/1 meter. So, it will give very good output at 50 watts per 6a driver.

In fact, you may have to tone down the rear 6a's a tad with an attenuator. Other wise, it may overpower the front stage.

The woofers noted should be fairly strong using the rear channels of the P8004. 200 RMS x 2 is nothing to sneeze at.
