well, i finally got everything wired and installed in the Infiniti yesterday. wow what a PITA. i had all the HU wiring done and i realized i forgot to get an antenna adapter so i had to go buy one, then i got back and realized that there was no mounting hardware so i figured i'd just take the brackets off the stock HU(which stopped working 2 days ago, luckily my new stuff was on the way) but of course i had to have the most stubborn bolts in the WORLD holding the bracket on, so i pretty much just beat the crap out of it and cut the sheet metal, filed down the screws and drilled new holes so i could screw it into the side of the HU, and luckily it worked perfectly, after that i got the usual nicks and such on my hand from wiring and taking off stubborn interior pieces. had some trouble finding a place to drill through the firewall because its so cramped in the engine bay but i got it after a while. i love Knukonceptz wire, its nice. for a grand total of $360 dollars i am extremely happy with the setup($120 for a Resonant Engineering SE 10" in homemade tuned ported box, $50 for that JBL 600.1, 40 for wiring 110 for the HU and then other misc. things. it sounds incredible and hits extremely hard. i'll have to take some pics later and post them. thanks -Derek Replies (4) UKinstaller on 05/31/2006 16:53:17 were the ISO mount brackets that you moved from the factory head unit to the aftermarket one held to the radio with phillips screws?? if so, yeah, those are notoriously hard to take out. my method is to use a short, stubby, fat phillips screwdrivers, push as hard as i possibly can, and hope the screw doesn't strip. if it does, which it does ALL THE TIME on nissans/infiniti's, i drill them out. always sucks. nice work -UK swez on 05/31/2006 19:00:16 Very ambitious that day? I guess so! Where'd ya find the JBL 600.1 for so cheap? That amp does not have a SSF. Make sure you use one in the ported sub application. If not, could damage the sub. Swez MrBrownstone on 05/31/2006 19:53:07 Rome could use some rebuilding, are you a contractor?? Man, one of reasons I got out of installing is that there was no such thing as a 30 minute job....unless you were replacing a fuse!! Glad to hear you had success. xplicitblitzboi on 05/31/2006 23:42:52 yes they were the phillips screws, i stripped them all out so there was nothing i could do :( lol yes i was feeling ambitious, not to mention i had gone two days without music and its extremely frustrating. got the JBL 600.1 off craigslist. i wont worry about the SSF for now, i'll just keep the gains at a reasonable level until i get the sealed enclosure i want. sounds good though, and i finally have some bass to go along with the nice sound system my car came with :) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
