hi i just bought a alpine mrp-m350 and wanted to know what sub(s) would be best with this amp.. my price range is $300.. i was leaning to more 2 subs, rather than 1, and wanted 350 wrms at 2 ohms but im new to this so i dont really know what setup will have better output.. your feedback is really appreciated..

Trust this, a single good 10 or 12 " in a well designed box will be plenty.

The Alpine SWR series will do just fine. Here's the 12" version.

You can go sealed or ported with either 10 or 12. To get a 2 ohm load, use the 4+4 DVC coil version. If you want dual subs, use a pair of 2+2 DVC's or a pair of 4 ohm single coils.

how should i wire the 12" 4+4 DVC coil version sub? by the way, thanks for repling..

With that amp, you wire a single 4+4 coil set in parallel. See details in link:

If it come out hard to read, just refresh and all details should come back clean and easy to read.

hey i was just wondering.. if my amp puts out 350 rms does that mean i have to buy speakers that have a max over 350 rms? how does the amp power output work? will it overpower the subs?

Well, dont look at power ratings pictured on the box in the following manner,

MAX-
MAXIMUM POWER-
WATTS-
PMPO-

It should be mentioned in terms of (r m s) , or continous power.

That alpine amp you got gives an output of 350 wrms@2ohms@14.4volts.

You should look at a sub that is anywhere between 300-500 wrms .It should be a 4 ohm DVC so that you can wire it in parallel voice coil configuration and get a net load of 2 ohms to get the best out of your amplifier.

Most subs are built to take massive amount of power, but the thermal capacity of their voice coils is limited ( tho its very high ). usually most manufacturer suggest the power range the sub can be used into..

It has been noticed that a sub/ speaker , will perform fullest when given + / - 33% power then what it is rated at..

So the 500wrms sub you got will perform well in the range of 335wrms to 665wrms..

Though deciding what kinda power to give to your sub also depends a lot on the kind of enclosure you choose, if the power is low to moderate you may want to go ported or bandpass to gain some extra db's, and if the power is high you may want to go sealed so that you can control the cone excursion and avoid over excursion of the subs..

Hope it helps...

Victor...

considering that 300-500 wrms isnt high power, i should get a ported enclosure for the Alpine SWR series 12" version?

swez on 06/2/2006 16:33:30
Ported will make a 300 watt amp sound like a 600 watt amp. Same SPL output at Port Tuning Frequency. (+3dB more bass SPL at PTF)

I would suggest you design your ported box for a PTF of about 30-35 Hz.. This way, you'll have strong low bass available and good SPL too.

do you know any good canadian stores or websites where i can order the swr and a ported enclosure? or even good u.s sites that ship to canada?

Car Domain ships to Canada. Techronics does and so does WoofersEct.
