i have a pioneer 960 (the daul face modle), 4 mids/highs, 2 sub, 2 amps,....anyway everything was working great for a couple of months now and out of no where i started geting a constant hiss and random crackles out of all the the speakers....i cheked everything i could think of in the system and could find no problems....i ran a signal from an outside sourse to both amps and everything worked fine.....hence the problem must be in the deck......and oddly the subs are getting full range sound out of the sub RCAs and you cant shut off the low-pass filter in the deck so i have no idea how thats happening.....please help this is driving me nuts......and since i see the 1st responce being 'you have a bad ground' ill say now that all of my grounds have been checked and they are still on good clean metal.......thanks for the help in the past and i hope you can help me with this....chad Replies (6) swez on 05/28/2006 12:01:38 Sounds like the amps/speakers are doing their jobs with the test you performed, so the problem is up stream. This HU has a motorized face panel. Sometimes, the ribbon wires that join both halves get loose and signal quality and/or other features are affected. This is a difficult repair for non-techs. If the HU is still under warranty, I'd look into that route. Before digging too deep, check the HU ground. It needs a dedicated ground to firewall or floor pan. OEM Harness grounds are often not good enough. Also, have a close look at the RCA's that connect to the HU. They may be a mite loose and can cause noise too. Sub amp... check the low pass filter setting on this amp. It should be set at 80-100 Hz. Good luck, Swez ttocs on 05/28/2006 13:52:48 what kind of car? What kind of equipment, and how is it hooked up? Be specific and complete. It could still be a wiring issue. ralter649 on 05/29/2006 01:15:31 03 cavalier, pioneer 960 deck, JL 6.5 front, JL 6*9 rear, 2 JL 10's, 6ch. coustic amp-625x(using 4 of the 6ch. to run the mids/highs) eclips 33230 2 ch. running the subs, RCAs run from deck to amps, 4 gauge power and ground wires, wire harnis used to hook up the deck (grounds are ran to frame not harnis) i have ran new RCAs, reset the miro proessor, and re grounded the deck and still have the same problems.....i souldnt have to set the low-pass filter on the amp cause the one in the deck should do the job but its being bypassed some how swez on 05/29/2006 12:58:47 Since these steps did not fix the noted problems, there's a very good chance the HU is having some internal problems. If you have a warranty plan, now is the time to use it. If you have no warranty plan available, find an authorized service center for Pioneer products and contact them about your situation. They can advise you the cost of repairs and how long it might take. FYI: The more moving parts we have in a given HU design, the greater the potential for mechanical failures that crop up sooner or later. A car is a difficult environment for any electro-mechanical device. Heat, cold and vibration are all factors for delicate, mechanical devices. Good luck, Swez PS If this HU has a "Loudness contour" feature, try disabling it and see what affect it has on your reported issues. ttocs on 05/29/2006 13:14:01 just for kicks before you take the deck out and send it off. Remove the amplifier grounds, and sand them down a bit just to make sure they have a clean paint free surface. also try running the rca's straight from the deck to amp, with out going under the carpet to see if the sound improves. Victor on 05/29/2006 17:25:19 hey, swez and I were chatting about your issue, we think that the HU menu cud have been reset to factory settings if you had removed the battery wire for some reason. If it is so, refer to the owners manual for chaning the LPF / non fading setup. Victor... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
