hey guys, sorry havnt had much time to post. been super buzy with work, my brother has a project golf cart that they installed a head unit into, when not moving the unit plays fine. when the gas is pressed the unit cuts out... this is a 48 volt electric cart.... the unit is grounded back to the batteries, the stereo is regulated down to around 12-14volts... any ideas why this is doing this or anyways to fix it... is this maybe just a simple wiring problem. thanx alot guys, will be checking back later but have to run... so thanx in advance for any information

Check the ACC/IGN wires on the HU when the car is in motion. If you see a big drop in voltage here, that's the problem. All the power is going to the electric drive motor(s) and not much power to the HU or AUX devices. Your regulator/voltage divider may not be supplying enough current to keep the HU working under driving condidtions.

You may wish to consider a dedicated battery for this HU. A small motorcycle battery should work, but needs its own charging circuit. Most HU's draw under 10A's of current. Look at the current load rate of any battery you may choose. It might be wise to install a voltage meter on this circuit too. Once the voltage drops below about 10.5 volts, the HU will often shut off.

here's what i did.

on the cart i worked on a few weeks ago, there were 6 batteries under the seat, totalling 36 volts. 36/6 is 6 per battery, so i knew after the second battery i would have 12v. i put my ground lead of my multimeter on the first ground at the first battery. observe carefully, because the batteries are wired in series so it might throw you off.

anyway, after you ground your meter, probe the power terminal if each battery until you find 12 volts. that is your power. no voltage regulation required. just run like a 12 gauge power and ground wire. i ran the wires under the cart and it turned out really well.

as for the accessory wire, the cart didn't have one, so i simply ran a smaller gauge power wire to the battery and put it on a toggle switch, so whenever you flip the switch, the radio came on. retained memory and all.

if you do it this way, you will have no problems with the deck cutting off.

ok thanx guys, i will tell him what u said uk and tell him to try that, really dunno what they are trying to do with this cart, i guess most electric carts are like 4-6 horsepower, well this on is 13 lol, it has a fiberglass truck body on it, looks pretty cool but you have to slide in through the window so im thinkin its more of a hassle getting in and out than anything... but thanx guys will let them know
