hey swez, im back SMILE just a follow up question for the topic "help pls....underpowered amp"....what if i run the coils in series, to get 8 0hms, and connecting it bridged to the amp. then ill be getting 150-200 watts @ 8ohms. would that be ok?
AMP---- 50w x 2@4ohms
SUB---- DVC 4+4ohms
...also, everyone is talking bout 4ohms and giving a 2 ohm load to an otherwise 4ohm stable amp is bad...but is it ok to connect a 8ohm load to a 4ohm stable amp. sorry for my english but i hope u guys get what im talking about...lols!

it will not hurt the amp, but you run the risk of underpowering the speaker which can be as bad as overpowering it. If the amp gets 50 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms, I don't think you will get 150-200 watts out of it 8 ohms mono. As the impedence goes up the power will go down, inversly proportional.....

ahhh...now i get it! im learning, really....thanks very much. so im stucked in having my dvc sub hooked in stereo mode and getting only 100 watts. guess i hav to buy a new amp to get my system louder. SMILE

Your best bets to squeeze all the clean power from this amp are:

1. Run am in 2 channel mode
2. Sub coil is 4 ohms
3. Each sub coil gets 1 channel

4. Bridge the amp to mono
5. Wire each coil @ 8 ohms (both coils in series)
6. Wire 8 ohm sub to bridged amp (net 8 ohm load)

A larger amp with more RMS power would be a good option later. We can help you find a decent amp for a reasonble price if we know your budget and power ratings of your sub. A Class D MONO amp would be the best choice here. It just depends on the RMS power the sub can handle.

hi swez..
i only got 1 sub and its 400watts max power. is it possible to apply the 1st and 2nd option?
1 pc. dvc sub wired in parallel( 4ohm/4ohm = 2ohm) connected bridged to the amp for higher wattage. im planning this cause my sub has a power rating of 400 watts max but my amp is only 50watts rms x 2 @ 4 ohms. fuse rating of the amp is 25 amperes. im going crazy bout this ohmic values.... as i understand, ill be hooking up a 2ohm load to 4ohm stable amp...yaiks!...am i getting my amp toasted???
if this configuration is possible/permittable, then what should be my gain ang bass boost settings?

oh.... i see your reply got edited...i replied to the first one. as to the 2nd option you gave( from the edited reply)...its ok to run 8ohms to my 4 ohm amp? i hav this configuration now in my system. what should then be the gain and bass boost settings?

*im intrigued with the bass boost setting in this amp i hav. many times ive read that over +6 db boost is not good but in my case, +6 db doesnt make any audible difference. up to +9db even. the change starts at +12db ( it has 0-18db range. i assume its at +12db cause the dial is over 1/2 clockwise). is it because i hav an amp with low wattage?

by running a higher impedence the amp will not have full power output, but the amp should be in no danger.......
