OT: What do you guys know about Dish Network?

Hey guys, am looking at a start up venture with a local company that sells and installs Dish Networks for HDTV/digital TV. (Sales function, not installer)

The package prices are very well priced and notably below Comcast, Bright House and other regional local vendors. Basic packages are 60 channels, mid line is 120 and full boat packages are 180 channels plus premium movie channels and all local affiliates too.

They will be adding high speed Internet services via AT&T, later this year. That should be a nice package as well. High baud rates of 1.5 MB/sec and higher, are planned.

Just like to get some Dish Network user feedback here... Pros and Cons, gripes and props?

This is what I know about it. Same on screen display as DirectTV pretty much and navigates the same. Cost more then DirectTV I believe. Dish Network has more HD channels which is good if you want to spend the money on HD. We are in the era of HD. HD gaming is awesome by the way. Games on the 360 to a 34" HD Toshiba SMILE.

When I was trying to decide between Cable and Satalite, I tried to figure out which was cheaper and tho the packages are usually cheaper for satalite, ususally the consumer needs to buy the equipment which then returns the cost to about what it would be with cable since you get the equipment from cable on lone essentially. Just my 2 cents.

I would check into Direct TV, basically b/c of the fact they cost virtually nothing to get a subscription, wider coverage area, more satellites, and they are expanding their wireless internet network over the next 5 yrs which would make them very competative w/ cable TV/internet. For a sales position, I think you may fair somewhat better w/ Direct TV vs Dish Network.

Thanks for the inputs here guys. Much appreciated!

This company charges $50.00 for activation and rebates it after 30 days of service. There are no charges for the dish, decoder boxes and install is part of the monthly package price. (2 TV's) If you have 4 TV's, they charge $5.00 a month for the extra decoder.

They also offer DVR for $5.00 a month and $5.00 for all local channel feeds. The basic fees start at $19.99 for 60 channels. This price is fixed for 10 months and goes up $10.00/mo after the initital promo period expires. (10 months) No long term contracts are required. Like most "Utility" providers, competition is tight. Profit margins are low and volume sales are the only real way for this type of service to show a profit or a good ROI. (Return on Investment)

This company owns all gear, installs are free and upgrades to premium services are very reasonable too. The only drawback I see, is the lack of a decent Internet package to bundle with same, at this time. Other than that... am I missing some key questions to dig into?

Thanks guys,
Swez
