I went out for my usual mountain bike ride yesterday. I went to a place I only discovered a couple of months ago but is quickly becomming my favorite trail. I was gone about 2 hrs grinning from ear to ear as I enjoyed the rolling singletrack, screeming down the downhills, and grunting like a mule going uphill. When I returned I was suprised to see that my door was unlocked, even though I remembered locking it. I took a quick look and my dc/dvd player was in the dash, but was suprised to see that my wallet was gone from the usual place in the consol. I did aquick look through on my truck to see if it was anywhere else, but it was too messy to do a good search so I decided to go home and clean my truck and take a better look. While backing out I went to grab my faceplate to put it back on and noticed that it was not in its usual place either but figured it would probably turn up after I looked harder. When I got home and started to clean it out my phone rang and it was bank of america asking about some suspicious activity on my account. Nope, I did not get gas, $200 worth of groceries nor buy anything at anchor blue in the past couple of hours.... I started calling all of my cards and cancelling them and found out that there were a couple of other transactions that were thankfully declined.

It could have been much worse as they didn't get my camera, sub/amp nor the gold chain I took off and put right below the faceplate before I took off. I also had a brand new cd player in the box(I brought home from the shop for a friend) in the back, as well as my limited edition PG octane amp that was mounted to the back wall.....

I think I am the most upset about the faceplate. Not like they can use it, but now neither can I. I thought I was in a safe place as I was at a trailhead parking lot that is out of the city limits. Now that I think about it, it was a perfect place to hit a car since there is little traffic in and out.

Sounds like you were fast enough on the wallet issues to realize that what they really wanted was fast access to cash and not your audio gear. Good move on your credit card fraud detection services too.

This make me sick to read such things. I too, enjoy going to out of the way places to fish. That puts the vehicle at risk as I am often more than half a mile away from the car and don't have a chance to monitor things from the river.

Last year, my brother's GMC Savanna was a target for drive by shooters with a pellet gun. He got a nice ding in one of his rear doors that just missed the rear window. They also slushed his truck with a slurpee.

Now, we are certain to leave all valuables at home or take them with us. Sad.... this is not the world I grew up in as a kid. Back then, you could leave your doors unlocked and keys under the seat and never give it a 2nd thought. Not anymore huh? Guess we're not in Kansas anymore Toto...

Sorry to hear this bad report Scotty,
Swez
