What's up guys? I'm havivg an issue with the install of an Alpine 9851 HU in an 02 Mitsubishi Galant. After wiring up the wiring harness and double checking each wire and connection I'm not getting any sound from the speakers. I reconnected stock unit and the speakers work. HU switch on bottom is set to normal. This car is a standard 4 speaker (2 in door and 2 in the deck) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Replies (7) demetman on 05/10/2006 20:32:03 Guys, I'm pretty sure there is no audio signal coming from HU. I hooked up my home bookshelf speakers to the HU and no audio signal. This unit is under warrenty so in the mail it goes tomorrow. Thanks ttocs on 05/11/2006 05:37:06 make sure you have the remote turn on on the factory deck hrns hooked up. If it is already, then just for kicks try hooking the remote turn on, on the factory hrns, to the +12v switched. On some of the amplified systems in chryslers, they like to use only two wires to the amps(pwr/ground) rather then the normal power/ground/remote power wires and they simply switch the power wire on and off to turn the amp on. the remote turn on in alpine decks was not enough to power the amp, and would supply +12v but did not have the current necessary to turn it on. demetman on 05/11/2006 10:11:04 It's funny you mention that ttocs. I had that issue with a friend's Alpine HU in a Ford Explorer. The Explorer had a factory amp and after fiddeling with wires for some time we figured it out. In this case, an Alpine unit is going in a Mitsubishi Galant 02 (no factory amp confirmed by vin #). This unit powers up but does not supply an audio signal to the spekers. I confirmed this by hooking up a home bookshelf speaker (only extra speaker I had) to a speaker channel from the HU. HU is only 5 months old so warranty service should take care of things. The bummer is for my buddy who will be patiently awaiting the arrival of this unit to complete his new system. Thanks for the advice. swez on 05/11/2006 10:42:05 Check the P-ic setting on menu driven selection as it mutes internal amplifiers when running EXTERNAL amps. This may be the reason for no audio from the internal amps. Look at page 18 -EN in the manual for details: http://www.stylestandard.net/oswego/Rooms/FrameMacro Hope this solves the problem, Swez demetman on 05/11/2006 20:39:58 Thanks for bringing the P-ic setting to my attention Swez. I didn't have a chance to check the initial P-ic setting before sending the unit in for service (bummer). I was not aware of the fact that sound advantages could be obtained by setting P-ic to off when using an external amp. Now that I think about it, my last install with this unit involved comp speakers and factory speakers were removed. (HU powered nothing) Well I'm sure I'm not the first knuckle head who encountered this situation and sent their unit in :( Againt Swez, thanks for the schooling. Demet swez on 05/11/2006 21:03:11 Hummm, I had to double check if that HU had that feature or not. Once I did find it did, had to pass it on. Seems like NOONE read the manuals or directions around here, (Until a problem comes up). I'm guilty of it too. But when stuck, get out the book and look it up. SMILE Good luck, Swez ttocs on 05/11/2006 23:29:17 I read a manual just today! It happened to be for the deck I am plannin on buyin........... I always read my manuals though and normally to know every feature on them. TECHNO GEEK SMILE......... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
