I've notice the sale of component car speaker systems. How do these work in relation to were do you place the crossover how do you connect it to the amplifier and do you need a specific amplifier for the setup.

this setup is very nice. gives a good all around sound, since it us using 2 or sometimes even 3 seperate speakers to produce the sound... the crossover network is a very important part of the setup, with a poor crossover you might as well go with a coaxial speaker... its main job to to keep each set of freqs going to the right speaker... your waisting your time tryin to make a speaker play freqs that it was not built or intended to play... this is where the tweeter is used to play the higher freqs, the midrange, which plays everything between the highs from the tweeter and the lows from your subwoofers...

as for wiring these, there is no special amp needed, the crossover will have an input which recieves power from the amp or headunit. then two outputs one for the mid woofer, and one for the tweeter.... as for placement of the crossover i dont think it really matters since at the most you will probably only be running 20-25ft of speaker wire... i have always placed them close the the speakers, usually inside of the door, but i dont see a problem if you wanted to place them in the trunk or wherever.... not 100% on this one so wait for more input, but i dont see that lenght causing any distortion or music loss.....

do you have any certain sets in mind... if so give us the links and we can check them out and see what ones will work best for your applications or maybe we can direct you towards a better set or even better a better set at a lower price. we are always about saving money here at CK but dont let that scare you we are still keen or sound quality and quality products.... but there are many brands out there that people havent heard of so they are scared to give them a shot. i personally dont know any of the guys on here but i would say there are about 6-10 guys here that i would not hesitate to take thier word on products.

well good luck on whatever you choose, hope i have cleared up ur questions.

Thanks. I was always a fan of crossovers but on coaxial or 3 way speakers. I thought for some strange reason that a component system was different from just buying a crossover. I mean it is but you are still wanting to achieve the same thing. sending the bass where it's supposed to go and the highs and mids where it's they are supposed to go. I'll send the links here in a little bit. Again, thanx!!!

Not a bad price for medium grade 2-way Comps.

FYI: As for placement of the crossover, in door mounts are often used. But moisture is often the failure mode for a crossover. As the crossover gets power, it heats up. As it cools, condensation can become a problem with time. Corrosion becomes an issue in a few years. This is why many Pro intallers opt for under dash or mounting them inside the vehicle. (Near the amps)

Even the best new vehicles window seals will leak over time. That sets up a high humidity conditions in the doors. This is especially true if the door drains get plugged or the air flow baffles are small.
