at a loss

MAD a few months ago i started to have minute issues with my head unit (pioneer 6400) and right around that time my dual 12 inch subwoofers stopped working. i have 2 identical 600 watt 2-4 channel amps (got them both on special...saving one for a rainy day). i have been attempting to repair the situation, but even though i have installed my own system many times before i can not figure out what the problem is. the wiring appears to be fine (no shorts, everything is in tact) i have since replaced the head unit and switiched the original amp with the rainy day amp. nothing has worked so far. both amps when hooked up show the protection indicator light when car is on but ground wire is not connected. when ground wire is connected the power indicator light does not light up.

Check your subs. One may have a shorted voice coil and this will cause the amp to go into protect mode.

Most amps need a net 4 ohm load in Mono bridged mode. If the amp gets lower ohmic values than was designed for, the amp will often go into protect mode.

What make and model subs and amp are you using here now and how are the subs wired to this amp? (2 channel mode or bridged MONO?)

why do you have the ground disconnected, and the amp on? this could be bad for your system as depending on the quality of the amp, it could seek ground through the rca's and blow the deck, or burn the RCA's(While seeing rca's catch fire is neat, I would not recommend doing it on your car).

Disconnect the speakers from the amp and see if they stay in protection. Your ground should be to a solid paint free part of the chassis. Make sure the cable is not loose and you can't move it.

What kind of amps and what kind of power wire?
