sophisticated computer car audio

I'm looking to find some type of computer run car audio system that I can put my own harddrive into... I have put all my CD's into a harddrive and I would love to access all 400gig's of them while I drive- kind of crazy. but here is the catch- so I can jury-rig a mac mini of the sort, but I would also love to have bluetooth for my phone connection to car audio... hmmm, getting more complicated--- i see systems out there that seem to get close but they are years behind the times in offering 10gigs of space- there are flash drives larger than that now. any help in finding this would be more than appreciated... also somebody in the Los Angeles area that could do this would be amazing- top shelf limit would be near 2000. (no speakers or amps) thanks- jordan

Mate, I hear what your saying. I was contemplating doing the same thing instead of buying a new head unit for my car but the price difference was a bit much since at my work I can get staff discount and so opted for the easier quicker way of a head unit.
If you go to www.mp3car.com there is heaps of stuff that you can use to make this carputer you are thinking of. Heaps of people have done it and there have been so many new gadgets for this kind of system sprung up over the years. They even sell ready made units in some places around the net.
Well hope this helps, cheers

The good thing about the car puter is that you can also add GPS for about $90 bucks! If you get a touch screen at the front you can access your media player / winamp easily and search all your music quickly. Also you could get a killer sound card with excellent sound processing capabilites for much cheaper than what you would pay for in the high end decks. Also the bluetooth that your talking about is definetely available you can buy bluetooth adapters which simply slot into the usb!
