Boston Acoustics Competition Subs

Hey everyone hows it going?

Just a quick question. Does anybody have any experience or heard anything good/bad about Boston Acoustics Competitor 1000 subs?

I think they are a few model years old and I was thinking of trying them out. The only problem is the guy who has them is about a 1.5hr drive away. I'm having a bit of trouble find any decent specs on them like rms wattage etc.

So if anybody knows anything about them let me know. Thanks in advance,
Jay

Never had any experience with the particular sub noted, but , Have used BA comps and they sure are clean. Impressive i would say regarding Price/Performance ratio , am sure be some of the other golds or members out there have auditioned them.

Less, scott, swez, PL, Mr.B are hopeful guys..

Victor..

P.S by the way which particular model are u talking about..??

I just had a look at the specs of the competitor series, not too impressive but decent enough, they have an Xmax of 5.5mm to 8.5mm one way, not at all comparative to the competition subs these days..

There are many other subs out there which are better than these, i dont mean to say they are bad, but nothing so special about them when compared to the subs in market these days..

They are the Competitor 1000's, the 10" version.

What would you recommend for a SQ sub? I have a JL e1400 amp running off an Alpine CDA-9813 head unit. I was looking at JL W3v2's and Memphis M1's both 10" versions. I also would prefer not to buy online. I live in Canada and the border/customs fees are outrageous. A sub that costs 200USD would probably end up costing around $300 to 350ish. Plus I want a warranty and stuff like that.

I would recommend the Alpine Type X 10", just installed one last week, definitely SQ.

Ofcouse the memphis and the JL are equally good too. There are many others too, its just a matter of personal preference, I would also recommend the Polk momo series.

But the most imp part that wud be is the enclosure, a sealed encl is the only way, if you are aiming at unmatched SQ.

Actually this amp can do about 500 Wrms @ 2 ohms. Alpine SWR-1242D is a very good match if you use a 12". The SWR-1042D is the 10" model. Both handle 500 Wrms.

Pricing: Here's the low prices, not sure if they ship to Canada or not??

Oops maybe I should have told you what sub I already have haha. I have a single 12" Alpine Type R 1241D (the old style). I want to try somthing different this time around. I've used both Type S and Type R. Time for somthing new.

Again I am looking for the best 10" SQ sub that can handle 500wrms. I was thinking now maybe a 10" Hertz High Energy series one. I have a pair of their 6.5" components and I am completely BLOWN AWAY by them. I was going to get a pair of Focal's but then I heard these Hertz Audio ones and I was very surpriesed at how good they sounded. If you are looking for somthing new give Hertz Audio a try. Audison is their distributor and you know they won't touch anything that doesnt match up to their high standards.

Anyways I will end my rambling lol... I guess I really like these components lol.

Talk to you later,
Jay

The Adire Brahma is a very fine SQL sub. They come in 2+2 or 4+4 DVC's as well.
