How do I install DVD monitors/players in my vehicle's dash and watch them while driving. I think now they have it to where it has to be parked or the parking brake has to be on in order for them to be watched. I know it can be bypassed I just don't know how to do it. I don't want to take it to an installer just for that. Any help would be appreciated. Replies (10) NstallzDunRite on 05/5/2006 00:56:00 there are several different ways to bypass the parking brake safety feature on aftermarket screens, depending on the brand of the screen. with some brands you can simulate pumping the parking brake by installing a toggle switch between the parking brake wire behind the unit and a ground source. some brands require a specific sequence with the parking brake which may require two switches. if you want to get creative, you could eliminate the use of switches by wiring in a relay(s) to simulate pumping the parking brake the minute the vehicle is cranked up. ttocs on 05/5/2006 09:03:07 AND with that being said it is time fer the legal stuff............. havin a monitor in view of the driver will of course be illegal, and honestly just plain STUPID....... I have a dvd player, and visor monitors, I have never needed them while I was driving. There was a case in alaska I believe where they were tryin to charge a guy with some kind of manslaughter after he drifted across the center and hit a couple head on, killing them both. They later noticed that he had an in-dash dvd monitor deck and suspected he was using it while driving............ Use yer better judgement here mang...... JayMizzel76 on 05/6/2006 14:14:42 With that whole watching while you are driving deal that ttocs was talking about well, everyone has there own opinion. I think having loud pipes on cars are stupid. But that's my opinion. Anyway, it looks like I will be going to an installer. Thanks anyway. swez on 05/6/2006 21:08:20 It's kinda funny how new laws are cropping up all over the place. In MI, they are trying to pass a law against using Cell phones when one drives. If it's a hands free kit, those are OK. Go figure huh? Also, what's the difference if we have a DVD player or NAV unit going as we drive? Both are distractions to the driver, but the NAV display does not require a parking brake lockout. I find the NAV unit more distracting than a DVD player. Have you ever see anyone cruising down the highway, reading a book, magazine or newspaper? (While driving?) I have... steer clear of those morons too. Finally, Myth Busters did a segment on driving skills on a test course while driver was using a cell phone and then impaired by alcohol. The drivers did a much better job navigating the course while leagally drunk, then was noted while they used cell phones. In short, a driver is safer behind the wheel of a car after a few shots and beers, then they were with a cell phone conversation going on. Now, that is a sobering thing to consider huh? Swez PS I hope you reconsider ttocs suggestion on watching DVD's while driving. If you wish to watch TV and maybe have a wreck, just don't take innocent people into the game with you. Loud pipes are annoying to some, but they don't cause car wreaks. Let's not mix apples and grapes here. This is really serious business. A 2,000 + pound car is not something to pilot while distracted. JayMizzel76 on 05/8/2006 09:55:20 The whole thing about loud pipes was in reference to my opinion. I was demostrating that everybody has there own opinion. Honestly most of the time the DVD would be on while someone else was in the car. Hold up, I really shouldn't be explaining myself here. I just asked if anybody knew of a way that me, Joe Consumer, could install an in-dash DVD player in my car and have it playing while I was driving. My question was answered and that was all I needed. Personal opinions unless asked should be not directed towards me. Again, thank you for all your help. You guys are very knowledgeable. That was on the serious tip. swez on 05/8/2006 10:50:24 Yes, we all have opinions and believe it or not, we are looking out for the best interests of all parties. I came on a bit strong for a very good reason. After 2 nearly fatal crashes, (caused by the other thoughless/distracted parties) I know what it feels like to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, 30 years later, I am paying a big price for "THEIR" errors in judgement. FYI: We don't "dump" on folks here. (rarely, if at all) Anyway, glad you have the answers needed and come back as you wish for other mobile media related needs. We'll try to skip the sermonettes too. hehe Swez JayMizzel76 on 05/8/2006 11:01:25 I'm sorry if I "dumped" on anyone. But I didn't think I did. ttocs on 05/8/2006 18:36:46 no worries, I don't think anyone has ever been called on that here. pappaj on 05/25/2006 20:47:44 I think a dvd player is more distracting then nav you use nav for reference not to follow a story line and get caught up in the action of the movie, If you throw in a stand up comedy dvd while driving that makes sense or any movie for the passenger then ok. but if you have to watch movies while driving you got issues. make up your mind drivin/watchin movies. that is like playing a racing game at home while trying to watch a movie Victor on 05/26/2006 01:43:14 Here i completely agree with pappaj, i have never ever installed a video entertainment system in my clients car, and the standard line i use is.. "I value my clients, risking their life is something impossible for me, yet if you are bent on it an wanna do it at any cost then i know another guy you can go to, actually is my competitor , but i wudnt put your life in danger, let him do it if he wants to, I never value my clients worth in money." ( and keep smiling thru out, yet in a serious tone as well ) Apart from strong ethics this does help build your clients confidence in you. Victor.. P.s : If you really wanan do it then, there are many guys out here, who are experts at video installing, since i have never done it i really dont even know much about installing or troubleshooting them Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
